    Basically I extrapolated by remembering that we are moving around the sun at... I think 30 km/s, and then the sun is moving relative to the galactic core at some other ridiculous speed, and the galaxy is moving at some ridiculous speed, etc etc etc

    I stopped giving a fuck if things I can't control at work go wrong. I feel much happier at the office.

    The internet was out all day Friday, which left me with absolutely no work today, so my department buddy and I just wandered around the shops nearby.

    And now I find it might be down until TUESDAY!

    I found it, it's in the Solar System article.
    The Sun lies between 25,000 and 28,000 light years from the Galactic Centre,[96] and its speed within the galaxy is about 220 kilometres per second, so that it completes one revolution every 225–250 million years. This revolution is known as the Solar System's galactic year.[97]
