Story time!
My fiancee (then gf) and I were flying out of London (Heathrow? I'm pretty sure it was Heathrow) at gate let's say 25. I misremembered and thought it was gate 24. We got separated in the food court but each thought we'd just meet at the gate. Unfortunately, I went down the aisle towards gate 24.
Now this would not be bad, except Gate 24 had an arrival and somehow I ended up in a place where I couldn't just turn around. And the arrival was from Pakistan. The only way back to the hub of the airport was through customs. And my flight was boarding now.
So I had to run (we later figured out) 1/2 a mile in an airport's border control area and talk my way past customs without being delayed. Thankfully I have the advantage of being a white nerdy looking guy. They ended up just waving me through and I made my flight.
