If it's not full tomorrow, I'll try to get through some of these rules and put together a character. I haven't played a play by post in like 5 years, if that's ok?
Also,
On a purely hypothetical level, what is your perspective of bribes and do you have any preferences?
Hypotheticly speaking, of course.
:winky:
As long as you are going to be an active participant, I don't mind.
Also,
I feel that if I want to run a successful game, the best thing I can do is choose the people I think will fit well, work together the best, and have fun in a way that won't interfere with other people's enjoyment of the game.
So, I'm going to do my best to pick the characters that will contribute best to the game. People who are interested, motivated to participate a bunch, and with experience sharing the spotlight with the other players, taking a stand when it's their character's turn to shine, and all around being a good RPer.
The best bribe you can give if you want in is to convince me you'll make this game interesting, fun, and worthwhile by your being in it.
One thing I'm wondering about that I've seen marsh mention a couple of times is loyalty. It seems that any non-starter pokemon have a chance to disobey commands, and this chance lowers if you're nice to your pokemon and raise their happiness. How is this going to work with a gang of criminals thieves and murderers who probably aren't going to play nice with creatures they view as tools?
Maybe change it from loyalty to fear, or respect? I'm not sure on the specifics of it
e: and as a side note when do signups close?
Well, that's probably a pretty good point. Although, some bad guys are actually really nice to their Pokemon, as they view them as their only friends.
I guess you can choose for each trainer whether or not they're going to use Loyalty or Fear. (And I guess you might have one or two Pokemon that you really have respect for and use loyalty for that).
I'm going to have to do a good bit more reading before I try and change the actual system though.
As far as being nice to my Pokémon, I think what I'll have Kingsley do if I get in is he and his Murkrow are partners in crime, and sort of have an equilibrium in the relationship but hate pretty much everyone else.

Marsh said he had to make up some house rules for his game, it makes sense that changing up the style would require some more mechanics too.
I'm sure you can deal with it as things come up, and marsh or your players should be happy to help with any problems!

And it probably won't actually be called Team Wang in the world.
Maybe Team Astral, Team Galactic, Team Sol, Team Lune, etc.
Well, with the exception of the Gen III organizations, most of the villians were based upon Space (Team Rocket was based on the Space Program, while Galactic members were named after planets in our Solar System).
If we're following that idea, we should probably take it up a notch and give ourselves codewords based on nearby sol systems of our own, e.g. Alpha Centauri.
Though if we're basing ourselves as a remnant of Team Rocket, where will we fit in? Before TR took over Goldenrod's Radio Tower, or after they were 'disbanded' again?
Also, since I've got nothing better to do:
The list:
Rent - Sara Draggin, Pokemon Breeder and her Lotad, Lotad
Shock G - Jack Williams, Ace Trainer, and his Larvitar, Gojira
TiamatZ - Mitarashi Shino, Martial Artist, and his Zubat, Zuul
Lucedes - Verity Jones, Martial Artist, and her Ponyta, Gloria
Speed Racer - Mark Vance, Pokemon Researcher, and his Wynaut, Deathporn
NerfThatMan - Kingsley "The Beak" O'Malley, Pokemon Ranger, and his Murkrow, Giza

Nearby systems? Don't be silly, clearly the coolest thing to do would be to use constellations. Team Zodiac anyone?

Thought I would come up with some better class names for team Wang
Ace Trainer --> Grunt
Capture Specialist --> Theif
Researcher --> Mad Scientist
Coordinator --> Taskmaster
Breeder --> Geneticist
Psychic --> Medium
Martial Artist --> Thug
Ranger --> Bandit
Speed: We could just assume that the pokemon world just doesn't have the term wang as slang, and it's just some random word. It could still work as the Wang cell of Team Rocket
This is a good post

The idea was that pokemon would rapidly get to level 30 or so, when those moves wouldn't be quite as deadly thanks to the extra hp, until then most pokemon were babies or rookies, who'd be likely going down with one hit.
Can't say I'm much a fan of it myself but I'll see how things play out in my game, and likely houserule accordingly.

Shiny Shellder looks better than Regular Shellder. Shiny Sableye doesn't look better than regular Sableye (they are cool in different ways). imo :rotate:
Not really! He's a physical tank that takes 25% damage from Stealth Rock, is weak to the most common physical attack there is, and is also typed such that he has lots of special weaknesses when he can't take a special hit to save his life!
what could I do to [strike]be the very best[/strike] better secure my place in this new WANG nation?
Create a character that will have me crying myself to sleep that I let such an opportunity pass me by if I don't pick it.
You will most likely start out doing some a few simpler crimes and then move on up to the more organized crime. Make someone who would be at home (or awkwardly accepted) in both situations.
Just though of a sweet idea. Ace Trainer whose family worked for a rich family as their Pokemon tutors and who eventually got fed up and stole some crap and left. Booya! Will flesh it out later.

unfortunately thats a bit of a pain with the -int and -str. Since any self respecting Sentai type character has to use his fists
And it probably won't actually be called Team Wang in the world.

Stats also begin to matter a lot less then moveset once you start getting the real powerful attacks that do 4d20, apparently.
some starting moves are just outrageous
