/also do the armbands double as wings? because if he could fly now that would really help one of his weaknesses (being slow)
This, this, one million times, this.
It's funny, because the BTAS Mr. Freeze was also a radical departure from the Mr. Freeze who'd existed (and faded into total obscurity) previously.
The real problem is that I have no faith in 90% of the New DCU's creators or editorial staff, to re-imagine these characters in a way that will be interesting. Look at New Blue Beetle, New Amanda Waller, New Starfire, New Harvey Quinn, New Hawkman, etc. They're either senselessly edgier versions of themselves, poorly redesigned, or both.

There are some exceptions though, like Morrison's young Superman and the new Captain Atom
WW and Aquaman are nice.... i was really hoping for a better effort on supergirl (i have no idea why i thought it would be better)
And I like the new Supergirl somewhat
the new Firestorm should be good but just isn't
okay that is worse
I'd be okay with that, actually.
Especially with the eventual storyline with Batman dealing with two Freezes at the same time with different motives, before father and son finally bond over something, and then Dad stays behind to hold off Batman so his son can ditch town and live to free him another day.
Demon Knights has been telling one small battle for 7 issues.
Red Lanterns' first story ends in issue 7, but very little has happened so far outside of some of the RLs getting their intelligence back, and us learning the backstory for some of them.
Teen Titans, Superboy, and Red Hood have been telling weird indefinite stories that might run for ever and drive me away from the books.
It seems pretty fair to say that even though the public mandate was not to write for trade, the in-house mandate for these first arcs has definitely been to write a solid trade-length story to draw in people's attention once again when the first volumes hit.
I mean all of the shit that went down in Brightest Day still seems to apply what with how he and Mera have talked about their relationship

I mean the writer was genius when you examine it more closely. His job was to reinvent Penguin, or rather, make Penguin's character less all over the place. So, he took the best aspects from each rendition of Penguin and mashed them together to make the perfect Penguin. He even got a little bit of Burgess and DeVito in there.
I think a fact that most people overlook is the most important aspect of the comic. The writer made the Penguin open enough to be used in any Batman story. He can be used seriously and more realistically now, BUT, he can also be a huge threat. About 3/5 of the comic, was a damn near believable Penguin. The last two issues gave us a more super villainy Penguin, that is able to bring an entire city too it's knees. Which is important when trying to make him look like an actual threat to the man who has beat up Superman on more than one occasion. I know this turn of events turned some people off as they assumed it to be a cheap way out. But I believe it was the author making his version of the Penguin able to meld with any Batman series, whether it be a more realistic take on Batman or a more balls to the walls crazy take on Batman.
Hopefully this darker take on Penguin, along with his darker take in Arkham City, will once again establish Cobblepot as a Batman A-lister.
Personally, I love the fact that he didn't take the cheap route and make Penguin seem like a good guy and make Batman seem like a bad guy, as many of these villain centric stories seem to do. Penguin is an evil twisted fucker, yet you still feel sympathetic to a point.

I went from kinda liking the Penguin on the rare occasions he was done right, to loving Penguin after the combo of Pain and Prejudice and Arkham City. For the first time I realize how much potential the bird has. He's off too a great start with this relaunch, even the shitty Detective Comics has an a decent Penguin. God, I'm so afraid writers are going to go back to Penguin pre-launch rather than keep this ball rolling. All it would take is ONE awful or careless writer to throw it all off.

Trevor McCarthy on Batwoman #9-11
Ed Benes on Detective #10-12
McCarthy is a nice choice for Batwoman.
edit: Also I wonder what happened to Amy Reeder, seeing as she was supposed to be the main artist on Batwoman going forward.
That said, more Williams is never bad. Maybe Reeder/Williams will be switching off - for all that counts for these days.

and the cover to Inc 2!
Ohhhh yes
I'm such a sucker for Robin team ups
I'm glad Tomasi is writing this meetup because it means there has to be Dick and Time interactions again, and it's just the best.

I love this cover. Tim actually looks pretty cool on it
I mean sure, you can't see most of him, but when a good artist draws him it's not awful
Additionally, there's just a bunch of little weird things. Like, why's Damian holding a batarang backwards? And I don't think I've seen a batarang with brass knuckle grips before. Usually that's some kind of separate gadget. It really looks like Gleason drew the image, then added those as an afterthought.
Tim's jawline and nose make him look older than he should be. Dude looks like a young Michael Douglas. Of course, artists have been drawing Red Robin to look like a thirty-something bodybuilder for a long time now.
I actually don't mind Red Hood's weird arms. There's something about the spindly wrists and awkward pose that's kind of charming, I guess.

Ah damn it. I should have looked closer. Oh hells no.
Tim's wings let him fly
