Only way to get string is from killing spiders. You'll find them fairly easily...
at night.
Sort of. You can place steps one level above, then place the steps where you want, then destroy the first steps.
So, like this:
___- <-- place these, place steps below, then destroy these
____-
I'm just gonna leave it running for a while and see if I can grow a giant forest for my tree fort.
I got tired of mining, so I took to spelunking.
First I had to battle off a never-ending swarm of slimes that managed to corner me at the shore of a giant ass lava lake.
Then I had an encounter that made me wonder if the monsters are quite a bit smarter than I give them credit for: There was this little chamber, filled with at least two of every type of monster in the game, but a giant slime was stuck in the opening, and none of them could get at me. I knew that I would be in trouble if I killed the slime, so instead I poured a bucket of lava in front of it, with the idea that it would flow into the room and burn them all. It did get a couple of them, but the skeletons had a different idea. They shot at a creeper that was mindlessly braving the lava to get at me, who then responded by exploding, taking the lava with it, and leaving the way wide open for the surviving monsters to charge at me.
Then, even later, I was just exploring a big chamber when I accidentally fell through a one tile hole in the floor, that turned out to be the roof over the lava lake where I had fought the slimes earlier. It was deep enough that I was completely immerged, and I was incinerated before I could even reach the surface.
I lost:
- 13 diamonds
- Diamond pick, shovel and sword
- A full set of iron armor in relatively decent condition
- A shitload of iron, gold, coal and red stuff
... and all just because I'm a clumsy goose. If a creeper had snuck up on me, that would at least have been a honorable (and hilarious) death.
I think I'll give up gathering resources for a while and start work on my underwater base.
Yup, it's right near the giant fruit fucker 2000. It's nothing compared to the stuff you guys do. But I was eager to build something and didn't explore too much, didn't even know we already had a Church of Wang, that's pretty awesome.
Where is it?
So yes.
also since they're all in a central location, saves are shared between the browser and downloadable versions on the same computer.
Maybe it's a mining funk.
So uhh... I dunno, suggestions?
classic, of course, is utterly lame. having dudes spawn in your base sucks.
sorry got distracted, yeah maps fine
Edit:
Night 1: Already assaulted by a skeleton archer. Hiding beneath the ice.
Nooo. In fact, the price doubles after multiplayer comes out officially, so if you want to be cheap get it now.
I'll play too, but I'm a big pussy so don't expect a lot of cave exploring.
In fact, expect a lot of tree planting. Possibly in the middle of anything Pabh builds.
You buy the alpha, and you get single player and multiplayer, and all future updates or addons are free for life.
And yes, Minecraft will be free.... after it stops selling, and he deems it complete, he will wait a while, and then release it as open source, most likely. That's at least a couple of years off, I'd bet.
FUCK this game has frozen on me twice and I've lost so much shit. Goddamnit. I think I need to take a break.

No, but if the source freezes it'll go away the same as if you dammed the source. I've been trying in vain to make a frozen waterfall today.
Put a torch by the source. Last I recall, torches keep water within a certain radius from freezing.
Hmmmm, maybe that's my problem. I have some nearby torches to mark the door to my cave (which is currently made of 2 blocks of sand).
edit: Yep, running water won't freeze, just the source. No frozen waterfalls.
You can build a greenhouse with glass walls and a glass roof, and plant your crops in there. Just make sure to have water no more than 4 squares away from your crops.
Or you could throw some dirt down inside a cave and grow crops by torchlight.
I've gone the greenhouse route, completely walled off with a glass ceiling. The animals just spawn inside.
I have to say I would have never figured anything out about crafting without the wiki. The first step of logs>planks just didn't occur to me, and frankly doesn't really seem necessary.

Just write a pm with the link to the safe file to the next one under you on the list when you think you are done. You can maybe do a short writeup of your session or maybe not. You'll need an account to upload on the site I used previously, or use another site. I think there are some rather nice mountain formations to the east.
thats like, tree years away at LEAST, dude
BTW, is there anyway to change your respawn point? I initially spawned on a beach and built a tower nearby, but I'd really like to respawn inside my tower instead of just outside it.
Ha, you're a big pussy, I'm still playing in peaceful mode.
Also check your pms for dropbox link
Stuff I did:
Ok as its just starting and theres a queue, I thought I would do a bit of resource gathering and only a tiny bit of exploring, I went to another island and spelunked a bit, left some torches about.
Then I went back to the first island and dug a hole to the bottom of the world
and then dug through a normal block and fell out of the world
and then there was lots of drama with establishing a way to get back to the bottom of the hole that I had dug. Eventually sorted that. Theres goodies in the chest at the top of the mine shaft in the little hut thing.

I thought you could throw them like snowballs, but I don't think they do anything right now.
