The + armors become visible once you have 2 or 3 of the required items.

The difference between a + armor, and a normal armor upgraded to enhanced defense is the skill allocation. Most defense upgrades require a mix of + and regular parts, while most + armor requires only parts found on the HR version of the monster.

take Rathian armor. it seems like the only ones worth making + armor is the Helm and chest. slightly better hearing but more slots

the others have the same slots. unless you can upgrade the + version higher

Oh, hey, my first question has been answered. Guess I just had to get a High-Quality Pelt for them to be unlocked. Doesn't seem that necessary, I can already gem in all the gathering stats and Heat Cancel (Hi) with a charm, though it would remove the wasting of all those Adv Armor Spheres. Then again, who wears Leather Armor for the defense anyway?

@mts: Yeah, there seems to be a tradeoff with every set. The 3 slots on the Ian helm is nice though.


EDIT: Missed Stryker's post, which would have explained to me what I found out later myself. Thank you for that, as well as the explanation about upgrades and armors+.

The extra slots in Leather+ lets you do some cool things with skills. My armor set for HR Roll the Uroktor.

hr roll urockter is 5* and it is glorious. i pulled some crazy loot from it. one run i got an ancient shard, 2 rustshards 2 timeworn charms, and 3 shine charms or something like that.

plus all the ores etc.

of course the majority were useless, but the possibilities

WOW. I just deleted the question and you JUST answered it. thats crazy. what i wanted to say instead of my question was: does anyone else hope to god that one day, capcom will release a full game? like all monsters, all armor, all skills, weapons, perks (color variants on monsters, felyne comrades) and such plus some new stuff? maybe no new stuff but its possible

EDIT: also, on a console. i typically dislike handhelds. maybe make a portable version to compromise.

It is really dissappointing that so many Wii games that come out have horrible motion controls and are better played using the more traditional controllers.

EDIT: Though I did use the wiimote back in the days of the demo when I had never heard of Monster hunter, beating Great Jaggi was a triumph, and Qurupeco was an insurmountable obstacle.

no, since i cannot connect D: oh well, i found a nice group on recruiting. consisting of two people.. both named Tidus. but i finally made the tenebra. totally owned those three. gigginox got dazed, then para'd, then knocked over and when he tried to jump to the ceiling, i hit him mid jump and knocked him over again. then barioth. first trap set, got bombed, then he gets out, does a backwards hop.. into another trap. then got sleeped and died.

Yeah, sorry you couldn't get on. I don't know why you would get continually kicked out of our city yet still be able to play elsewhere, but at least it sounds like you still had a good time. (Were I either of those monsters, I would've ragequit so hard)


And now a question (and a half): how useful and/or necessary is Guard+2 compared to Guard+1? Are there any specific, significant examples of attacks that aren't counterable with Guard+1 but are with Guard+2?
Also, which attacks become blockable with Guard Up? The only one I know of for sure is Agnaktor's LAZOOR.

Yeah you can, but it's high rank Diablos so they hurt really bad and at 360 defense or so can almost two-shot you with their charges at 150 health. We finally finished it yesterday though and I got 3 tickets, so I'm upgrading the Hellhunter Jacket and that's it. I don't want the Soulhunter Jacket, white is so much lamer than black. It doesn't even match the pants.

i have no clue, i can connect with some, but not others. really stupid.. the only explanation i have is my network setting is STRICT, so i can't connect with some. with you guys, i got "processing unsucessful" . thats the way it goes with my 360, and they both use the router so maybe.

Thanks to all last night for helping me finsih off cold call to get my dark metal. That quest almost made me rage quit a couple times. i had down it 5 or 6 times or so and had only gotten 1 or 2 metals. i was finally to the point where i was just going to accept i was never going to get it and never try again when i ended up getting 5 on one and then ended up with another 7 on the following. o_O glad its finally done with. I hate gigginox so much.

Miz did you and Dain get your Sharq lances? the only painful thing is getting the R. Lud coins. but with two people it isn't bad. But i hate arena matches

I guess I can pick up some of the cooler G-weapons or something. I'm also hunting a bunch of every monster to get the titles and things, and practicing with weapons other than LS. And I made a new armour set with Sharpness +1, Sharp Sword, Evade +2 and around 600 defense, which is pretty great.

its funny, the longer i play the more i want to mess around with different weapon types. i have been on a long sword kick lately.

have a healthy inventory of hammers lances, and long swords. Surprisingly i have 3 great swords, the crystal one and the rust and ancient one. despite never using a great sword

You should remedy that mts. Great Sword is amazing in that it plays really differently from any weapon you keep at the ready. Charge charge charge WHACK sheathe run run run. Repeat.

I have a fully upgraded Ancientshard GS, and Crit Draw, and I seriously get giddy fighting HR Rathian, because a level3 draw charge is a guaranteed stagger if it connects. Just need to work on my timing so I can stagger her mid-charge. :winky:

actually been meaning to. i just forged up a uragan/diablos set that i need to gem out to get crit and punish with defense boost. was going to use it on my LS but can use it on great sword too.

need to upgrade teh GS to usable levels. still worn or rusty

Do what I did:

Make every endform of all weapons. That is, the end branches of every weapons trees. Should be about 300-ish, not counting bowguns. For bowguns, make all the highest rarity ones, then any other miscellaneous cool ones. Then, make all the cool G-weapons to boot.

Make all the cool, unique armors. All the high rarity ones.

If you can, make the JP exclusive gear that never made it stateside. The "dummy" equipment.

(incidentally, I've got about 2 rows of equipment slots free in my box. Might've gotten a bit carried away with all that. :oops:)

Hahnsoo made me want to hunt 100 of every monster, for all the titles and whatnot. That's still keeping me busy when I do get a chance to play.

Get all the Treasure hunting treasures.

Min and max crowns for every monster. I'm still short a giant blangonga.

All the training school quests. Get all the piercings.

Any or all of those should keep you occupied for awhile.

Gigginox just wants you to LOVE hiiiherrrrrit.

Got all the tickets, just need coins and ore. And by the way, offline arena Ludroth is actually pretty damn easy. One of the options is a Chieftan's GS with Critical Draw, and with that I can beat him in about 9-10 minutes. I'll probably go downstairs and kick his face a few more times once I'm done doing nothing on the laptop.

E: So hey, Sharq Attaq actually works really well (TVTropes warning) against things weak to water. With elemental attack up, the only lances that work better against Uragaan and Agnaktor are final form, high-rank ones (i.e. Alatreon).

Aye, I'm working on getting all the monster titles but all those Lao Shan's/Gaoren's are disheartening. I need to work on my Fatalis killing too, I still don't think I've beat the White one. Done all the trainings but a couple of difficult G-rank ones. Got all the Treasures and almost every gold crown; hopefull the others will show up as I rack up my monster kills.

Also I finally beat the final offline quest 'Monster Hunter' (beat a Rathalos, Tigrex, Nargacuga then Rajang in the arena.) Beat in 45 minutes-ish. Probably spent longest on the Rathalos, kept flying around just to infuriate him.

My equipment for anyone who's interested:
-Last Gaelic Flame
-Ceanataur Helm Z (Dodge Jewel)
-Kushala Cista X (Dodge Jewel)
-Kushala Grip X (Dodge Jewel)
-Ceanataur Tasset Z (Evade Jewel, Artisan Jewel)
-Narga Greaves X (Master Jewel)

Gives you Evade+2, Sharpness+1 and Sharp Sword with 615 defense. Used no traps or flashes, I was surprised how quickly Tigrex and Narga went down actually.

Now I can enjoy my rewqard of, a piercing, with +15 points in psychic vision, *sigh*.

Random Ala groups can all go die. Having a very decent run, both horns broken, tail off and maybe 15 minutes into it. We're all dodging and countering properly, until Ala decides to Dragon charge into a corner. Instant leap + instant back fireball = unfair corner juggles, yet randoms insists on going in for that one or two hits. One goes down, then 30 seconds later the other two go down in the same fireball.

Im never gonna get his GS. =[

So, in light of recent evidence, I have come to the realization that maybe hammers don't suck quite as badly as previously thought. (read: I'm starting to figure out how to use them.)

Also, the Ceadeus fight, while not particularly difficult, is pretty friggin' badass and has some awesome music.

And the post-Ceadeus dual monster hunts are actually pretty harrowing. I tried the double Barioth and Rathalos/Lagiacrus quests today and they both came down to the wire, the latter coming down to around 30 seconds left. I actually had serious doubts about my success both times, and I used a LOT of Mega Potions.

It was definitely worth it though, since I got 3 Barioth Spikes (I can never get those motherfuckers) and a Rath Plate (from a shiny drop, no less). All in all, it was a pretty refreshing experience, even if my blood pressure did kick up a notch or two at times.


Now the question is, what do I use the plate on?

I'd probably pick armor. You can make fire weapons with Agnaktor stuff.
