yeah those stupid french, who do they think they are
it's all "pay for college" this and "only way out of a dead end town" that
would be to reclaim the French Louisiana and annex the rest of canada
i wanna kill lots of people!
fffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff
I WANNA SEE DEAD BURNT BODIES
I WANT VEINS IN MAH TEETH AND BLOOD IN MY HAIR
The Marines is clearly the superior choice.
Yo breath stank.
i like that.
it'll be good for you
i believe in you
do it
ARE YOU TRYING TO STEAL MY POKEMON CARDS!?
i just think it's a good idea
there won't be after i'm done
As time goes on, though, and as I approach my last year of college, the impulse is still there. I still want to join the military. Not because it is my last resort, but it's because it's something I want to do. I want to throw grenades, I want to go to foreign countries, I want to bulk up, and I want somebody abominable to give me an excuse to shoot back at them.
So, I've given myself a deadline. If I can't get a proper job by my 24th birthday, I'm going to get the fuck out of the world and join the Army. As I understand it, with my BA, I'm eligible for OCS, which means that by New Years of that Year, I would be 2nd Lieutenant Penguin Incarnate, which would look real good on a business card.
I considered the Navy for a while, but I realized that I hate people named Lawrence.
everyone loves a uniform
a really nice uniform too. navy whites are snazzy.
edit:
naaah man, the navy's dress uniform is slick shit. the marines have the best dress uniforms though
It doesn't bullshit and, while, yeah, it is TV, it's worth checking out.
that thing is slick as hell
if you can't get a lady in that you need to just give up forever
mainly because its a hassle to write up resumes and cover letters to a bunch of companies
navys just got forms
and i guess it would be a good experience, in terms of the actual work and the personal development involved
but i dunno the thought of spending a few weeks on a boat doesnt sound great
i like my personal space
and i dont like committing to anything ahead of time (see: AusPAX) so a 3 or 4 year contract at a place that could make it hard to leave does not sound like something i want to be signing without some real basis
plus i dont even care about the damn navy
Hussars > Marines > Navy > Army > Coast Guard > Surgeon General > Garbage Collectors > Music Men > Air Force.
I love writing, I love film, I love doing what I'm doing with school, but at the same time, joining the military is intensely attractive. There's a lot of benefits that come with it and there's also a lot of risks and detriments. It isn't for everybody and, the best advice I could give you-- which is advice I've been given-- is don't do something because it's your only option or because you panic or something. If you're going to join the Navy, do it because you want to.
Which I think is half-assed, decent advice for any endeavor in life.
why can't real life be like my japanese animes
Anyways, I realize that the only way I'm ever going to get a BFA is if the military gives me my tuition via the GI Bill.
dude, staying in college and getting my faggy-assed theatre degree is probably my best option. but, even as much as i love the theatre and as alive as being on stage makes me feel, i would love to join the navy. my grandpa was an airplane mechanic! veteran of korea, even though it ended about a week after he left boot so he never got to do anything interesting except work on planes. he made a ring out of a quarter once! with a spoon!
edit: also this plum i'm eating is amazing.
If you still want to join the Navy, if you have a BA, you're in better shape than 90% of the people in boot camp. With a degree, I'm pretty sure you can become an officer, which means that you don't have to clean as much shit up an you get a much better bunk on a ship.
Just saying.
Man, I've got to talk to a recruiter one of these days. I know they're basically car salesmen with guns, but I still need to do it. I also know a guy who's a Lt in the Marines and a former Ranger, so they're pretty good references, too.
PS: I'm a film major. We're all in this together.
The navy is the only branch (pretty sure about this but not 100% that no one else does it) that guarantees your enlisted rating (basically what your actual job is) in your initial contract that you sign when you enlist. That means that if you sign up as say, a Hospital Corpsmen (which covers everything from combat medics to administrative nurse types depending on where you get stationed) they can't be like "Nah, fuck that we need some more cooks!" halfway through boot camp.
Your rating is very important since it effects not only your day to day job but also things like where you can get stationed, your sea/shore duty rotation and even how fast you advance (due to the fucked up navy advancement system where each rating is issued a quota of how many people can advance per cycle based off the "needs of the navy").
This website has a pretty good overview of all the rates, or you could ask around in the H/A military thread and I'm sure someone there could answer just about any question you had.
Good luck with whatever you end up doing.
