my wife and I both work. We make over 100k together. If she lost her job we would lose our house.
We live in a reasonably priced 1500 sq. ft. house in a middle middle class neighborhood.
How am I rich? I am not rich.
what's your monthly mortgage payments like slick
$1300
is that just your half or?
because my rent is higher than that you goose
between my government disability payment and my fiancee working, we're able to afford our rent and also have money for going out and shit
we're doing pretty okay, and when i'm raking in a decent income in addition to my disability support (eventually my income will be greater than my disability support and i'll stop getting it) we'll be living very comfortably.
we're looking to get married next year, and in another three years she'll be able to sell her condo and we'll get a new one in Toronto here. we've been looking at it, and for most of them we'd have a monthly mortgage payment in the $2000-$2200 range, and that's acceptable
what are you doing wrong with your finances, bro

ludious you sound like you live in a place with a ridiculous living cost and you have circumstances that put you in a position of having to spend a lot more money than most people
for example, i don't even own a car, because i live in a city with a pretty outstanding public transit system. it costs me $125 for a monthly transit pass enabling me to use the subways and buses as much as i want
we spend about $500-$700 a month on groceries, and because our rent is inclusive we don't pay utilities separate from our $1600 a month rent.
that's what it's like to live here
you sound like you live in bananaville where everything costs bananas

I am terrified of being poor. I will be honest. Like the idea makes me shake. I grew up in a house where we got foodstamps and my mom constantly went into debt with credit cards because the car would break or the sink would explode, or whatever, and when I got my job with the government 5 years ago and started making money the idea of going back to that brings me to my knees.
living urban rather than suburban so that I don't need to own a car probably saves me a bunch money
ditto renting rather than buying, because housing tends to be expensive when you're not a 'burb dweller
I worked out the other day that it is cheaper to rent cars as and when I need them than to buy one, provided I need a car no more than 100ish days out of 365, which seems like a pretty safe bet.
Basically, Will, you are acting as the equivalent of the petit-bourgeois in the birth of modernism and realism in France. Back then, you always had to paint allegorically if you wanted to portray real life. But then the modernists started painting everyday scenes of real life, because it matched their socialist and/or modernist viewpoint. And many said "oh dear heavens! look at this rubbish!"
Now you can say "yes, but that was great art, and this is not!"
but that has been happening every single generation
do you really think that this is somehow the last art generation, like some raving apocalyptic, or do you think that you are merely on the conservative, dying, destructive side of history?
this is a false dilemma
especially because most "movements" in art aren't "progression" so much as bullshit dead-ends.
but you know every scrub with a brush or synth thinks he's the next picasso or stravinsky and takes the fact that everyone outside of his direct social circle thinks that everything he does sucks as validation!

But what kind of pathetic life is that
Last time I was there I spent at least 30 minutes looking at a Troyon painting (The Approaching Storm) and oh god I can't wait to see it again!
You could spend that $35 on some better grammar.
I like Miro
I think you need to own up that you live an expensive lifestyle, because otherwise nothing is adding up here.

especially with no kids, and living in the south
i refuse to believe somewhere classified as "south" is really expensive to live unless it is like

Sure, I could move. But that'd mean giving up this career. And that'd be dumb da dumb dumb dumb.
But I also make debatably silly choices about how I spend my money, so there's that.
specifically this one
mainly because
