the clarinet is a large kazoo, basically.

edit: for a book, i would either google adult piano learning books, or look up piano teachers in your area. Most of that stuff is so varied, that it's crucial to have a teacher show you what to get and study.

Man I would love to learn to play the piano. But I'd only ever play Moonlight Sonata over and over so no real point.

I have always wanted to learn the violin

I used to be very good at it.

I wish I would have picked that instead of choir.

I was sort of pressured into it by my parents.

They hinted at not being able to afford the rental fees for my instruments.

being able to walk into a party and play jazz piano is pretty much the coolest thing you can do, however.

God I love "In the Backseat". The combination of the strings and the french horn and her voice is just, yes.

Langly, let's toot our horns together :winky: (even though I haven't played in a while (I play trumpet)).

Been thinking about learning to play the cello, too. Also a rad instrument.

Also, this thread has indirectly helped push me into considering buying a keyboard to learn how to play piano. Any recommendations for an instrument and/or teaching book?
This is another instrument I've wanted to learn.
It's kind of pricey but I was looking at this site.
Of course I need to get a keyboard or a piano first.

I played the clarinet in band. I really enjoyed how it sounds and I wish I still had mine instead of giving it to a relative after I graduated.

This is intriguing. I might shell out the money for this and ask for a keyboard from my family for my birthday.

    That is a solid song.

It's hard to introduce to groups of friends though, you have to solo listen to that one.

This thread needs more French horn vids

I did band last year of high school and 3 years in college. Played baritone. yea.8-)

I was learning the cello in 3rd grade until I used the bow to fire pencils into the ceiling. Then they made me take choir.

I kinda regret it now. String instruments seem far cooler than brass.

I would put time and effort into it Virgil, but last time I picked up a guitar and tried to play a little riff, my hand started to burn and hurt at the joints really bad, too the point I had to put the damn thing down after two minutes.

I'm leaning toward arthritis, it tends to set in around the mid twenties in my family and my hand tends to ache even now that I don't even own a guitar.

I've played the alto sax for 17 years now and I will forever hate when horn parts are transposed and given to the altos. The worst decision because it is just not the fucking same. I hear the recordings and it violates my ears. There are plenty of ways to use a sax in a symphonic piece (bless you Granger), but doubling the horn part is not one of them. Not to mention, I love my sax, but damn if I hate writing for it. I will write for a horn in a heartbeat. Maybe this is due to the fact that programs like Sibelius still have yet to nail down what a saxophone should like, but regardless I still loves me some french horn.

P.S. Trumpet players can go suck a dick. It's not a rivalry because we don't give a shit about your little three valve piece of tin. We're better than you, get over it.

Your fuckin' family's dug into the Southie projects like ticks. You, however, grew up on the North Shore, huh? Well, la-di-fuckin'-da. You were kind of a double kid, I bet, right? Huh? One kid with your old man, one kid with your mother. You're upper-middle class during the weeks, then you're droppin' your "R"s and you're hangin' in the big, bad Southie projects with your daddy on the weekends. I got that right?

That is unfortunate Uriel and I hope you will not become handicapped by your hands.

The good news is, that despite a large number of musical instruments requiring hands, you can still learn to use your voice, or if your disability lies only in your hands, you can use your legs.

Tappers and stompers are awesome to have around, especially if you are doing shows.

Music lessons tend to be fairly assessable, compared to other skills.

There are thousands upon thousands of music/dance students, that would rather make some money giving lessons, then work another 6 hour shift at a waffle house or burger king.

They can get you started and train you at a ridiculously reduced price.
For it to have an impression though, you need to really submit your ego to your teacher.

You have to ask the dumb questions and be willing to ask for help with everything you struggle with.

It might also help, if you can save enough to insure the student that you can afford a steady line of lessons.

They will become far more invested in your learning.

It's not our fault we were so good we managed to make it outside of classical, and we could only bring along one other instrument so we picked trombones to be our fat friend during the third wave.
