(CNN) -- A man possibly armed with explosives took at least one hostage Wednesday at the headquarters of the Discovery Channel in Silver Spring, Maryland, police said.

Capt. Paul Starks said that police were in communication with the gunman, and that he was making some demands. The suspect had "concerns" with the Discovery Corporation, he said.

A caller from One Discovery Place, the channel's headquarters, called police about 1 p.m. to report a man with a gun and possible explosives, said Angela Cruz, a police spokeswoman.

The area has been evacuated, she said.

I actually just saw this on the local news when I turned on the tv. They had more informaton too, such as the suspects name and that his permanent residence is in california, but he spends a lot of time here, and the fact that he staged a protest two years ago against discovery for things such as "glorifying overfishing and builders of pollution machines." Was arrested for that protest on disorderly conduct charges.


The hostage situation is still on-going.

A hostage situation is underway at the Discovery Channel headquarters in Maryland. According to reports by WJLA, the suspects name is James Jay Lee, James Lee is known for frequently protesting Discovery.

The Discovery Channel sent an email to employees upon notification that the suspect was in the building. It reads as follows: Subject: URGENT: Employees Should Go Home – Don’t Return to 1DP Until Further Notice Employees at 1DP should go home for the remainder of the day. No employee should return to 1DP for any reason. Employees with cars at 1DP should not return to the office, but instead use an alternate mode of transportation.

The children from Discovery Kids Place are safe and with their teachers at the McDonald’s at the intersection of Colesville and Second Aves. Parents should meet their children there and go home for the remainder of the day.

Police say that there is at least one hostage; recent video showed children from the day care center being evacuated from the building.

Also the local news reported that two shots were fired earlier.

Got a call from a friend who works in the building down there.

Seems like they all got an email that said to sit tight but a lot of people were already getting the hell out of dodge. Seems that the daycare was evaced and that everyone needs to stick around for some questioning if this gets any stranger than it already is. Apparently there are (obviously) some upset looking men wandering around with guns who are looking to introduce themselves to this chap.
