No. There can be only 50 states. Puerto Rico and Hawaii will battle to the death to see whether Puerto Rico can become a state by defeating Hawaii and taking its statehood. All new states will have to go through a similar process of beating the last state to become number 50.

At long last, we shall finally be rid of Rhode Island.

No, Rhode Island can earn its spot by smiting Providence Plantations.

how on earth do they get away with having "sic semper tyranus" on the flag? They might as well put "fuck you, Lincoln!"

And why does it seem like every single state flag is completely horrible. The only that I like is New Mexico.

It was on the flag a little bit before Lincoln's time.
I just want to say, Booth got it from the flag.

In a creepy turn of events, the state park sign talking about the farm where Booth died is in Virginia, meaning the seal of Virginia is on the sign, which has that phrase.

Tends to happen with heraldic designs.

Best one remains New Mexico's, though the history of it implies that any cultural understanding it displays is purely accidental.

Should be noted, the Senate hasn't acted on it, and the Republicans will never allow it to be acted on. As it would be 2 Senators, 6 Representatives, and 8 electoral votes, most if not all of which would go to Democrats.

For similar reasons, DC statehood will never happen.

Republicans lost their big DC prevention tool when SCOTUS said that guns were AOK in DC, though. They may not want DC statehood, but if it were to come up seriously now, what argument could they use to prevent it?

I'm not talking about judicial consistency.

I'm talking about how they can't just stick DC gun rights in to a DC statehood bill anymore to get Democrats to give up on it. DC already has guns. They'll need a new tactic, or else DC residents might actually get to be treated like actually Americans, finally.

DC is a federal district, and under the constitution DC is run by the federal government, it's courts are run by the federal government, and the government can mess in local affairs.

So you either have to amend things so that federal districts get senators and reps, or you have created a state where the federal government runs it and it's courts system. Neither of these are legal.

Isn't DC not being a state kind of the whole point of having a DC?

Yes. The entire point of DC is having the federal government not in a state because that could cause problems. There are very good reasons why DC is not a state. People just chose to ignore them and go around it because they don't give a fuck about what's best and just want to sneak a couple extra votes in, which is dishonest and BS.

PR, there aren't many reasons why not, other than that they don't want to be one.

Uh, no. Most "Make DC a state!" plans still keep the federal government itself- i.e., the mall- as non-state territory.

DC is full of honest hard working american men and women who are NOT given equal representation to their state-having brethren. And before you say that they should move, keep in mind that would cause our government to collapse, if all of the janitors and cab drivers suddenly abandoned DC en mass.

My grandparents, living in DC, couldn't even vote for President. That is fucking absurd.

The constitution is dated in certain areas. When it was written this didn't really matter, because residents of cities generally were not land-owners anyway. As our nation has evolved, and the vote has been spread out to everyone, it is a horrible blemish on our visage that the men and women who keep the infrastructure of capital hill up and running do not actually have representation within it.

The reason it hasn't happened is because of conservative opposition to a new liberal state. The fact that there are laws in the way makes no difference, because those laws can be ammended. It is technically illegal to outright declare ANY area to be a state without the passing of certain laws and votes anyway. The process with DC might be slightly different, but there is still a process.

Disney prints out fun bucks that can be purchased with U.S. currency and then used in the park if one likes. There's no real advantage to it for the consumer other than the novelty of using corporate scrip to purchase goods and services, or if they like, collecting them.

If that woman's cleavedge made one more person pick the game up off the shelf, it was a net positive for microprose. And to be blunt, if taking her top off could have increased sales enough to get a sequel, I'd endorse it 100000% because I like playing great games.
