What does adobe download manager do?

I just had a random install from firefox, where suddenly it installed an adobe download manager? Does anyone know what this is or what it does? Can i just disable it and still run web flash?

Or does it have anything to do with this annoying new google search?

    It manages adobe downloads.

    Searches for updates for your various Adobe products. It's basically harmless.

    If it bothers you though, you can manually download the installers yourself from Adobe's website. Though keep in mind, it does take a bit of digging to find them.
