You can play it legally if you have an R4

you buy the game, dump the rom into the R4, then load the translation patch

I don't know the technical nitty-gritty of it since I just borrowed it from a friend but that's the basic idea.

Also, seriously, play that game. It's fucking incredible.

One of the only games to make me tear up.

Seriously, it will make a sobbing mess out of you. It is one of my favorite games. The translation is pretty fantastic.

Yeah that's it. It has an attack where it "begins to glow strangely" and then suddenly one of your party members' HP count starts rolling to 0.

For some reason I wanna say that Paula is immune to it.
