ah here's the daily in question: http://day9tv.blip.tv/file/4000064/

I might have been making that logic up, I don't actually remember what the purpose behind delaying the queen was

It was for a specific matchup vs terran, and he only mentioned it offhand to give an idea of how people should try and think up out of the norm strategies. He hasn't gone over it in detail to my knowledge

Yeah I remember him mentioning it in the daily.

And just tested it out with the 14 pool and there is no way skipping a queen is good there. Income was high enough to support a Queen and pumping drones early. I could see it having some use with a lower supply pool perhaps.

Actually I meant that I made an extra queen. By the time my expo was saturated, I had a total of 3.

I love getting an extra queen, you can pump out soooo many creep tumors

for those who don't know, the more creep tumors next to each other, the faster the creep spreads out. With 2 or 3 you can keep placing new ones at max range. So if you have a ton of creep tumors going off in each direction you can spread creep crazy fast

I like multiple tumors, but I really like using Overlords to generate creep at the max range of a tumor, so they can spread without having to wait for their own creep. If you chain 2-3 OLs, it's crazy how fast you can creep up a map.

Is there anywhere I can watch the GSL matches without paying the 20 bucks to get vod access? On GOMtv all I can seem to get is the first match of any given set.

Ahaha. Just played against a Terran doing some nice early Reaper harass. Uh oh he killed off a few Zerglings.

Then he noticed there were Roaches breaking down his front door.

so what does "macro" mean in the context of this game?

  • Beef AvengerBeef Avenger Registered User regular
    edited September 2010
'macro' is mostly managing your economy and pumping out units. Basically all the non combat stuff

unit control during combat is 'micro'

nah, it's just going off the 'big stuff' 'little stuff' definitions. computer macros can actually get you banned, blizzard has a '1 key = 1 action' policy

Does anyone else have a, what feels like, crippling fear of doing 1v1 ladder? Finally played 4 placements just then and totally demolished everyone. Then I went and played some UMS games like a little baby, afraid to play my last one.

Yeah I was a little nervous when I first jumped into ladder games, as quite a few other people are from the sounds of things, but you just have to jump in and start playing. Just don't be afraid to lose. There's no terrible penalty for losing so just do eet.

In my most recent 1v1 ladder games, I won my first match and my hands were actually shaking at the start of the next one.

I was like, "Godammit, calm down! You're screwing up what little macro skills you have!"

so I'm watching daily 174 and despite day9's enthusiasm for counterattacks, it really seems like if I throw my whole army at the enemy base once he's moved out for an attack, the mostly likely result is going to be a base trade that I may or may not win and bluh

ARG stupid Marauders. 10 Marines and 9 Marauders against 28 Zerglings.

The Zerglings got one kill. Could have done a little better with the micro, but that is just mean.

The trick is to sit down and play 5 games in a row, regardless of outcome.

More you play, easier it is.

well considering 28 lings is 700 minerals and 10 marines+9 marauders is 1250 minerals and 225 gas I would hope they win.

Don't engage blobs of ranged units with your zerglings unless you can efficiently surround them, in other words don't try to fight through a choke point or something. Also 10 marines and 9 marauders is a pretty significantly bigger force than 28 zerglings, mineral for mineral and food for food.

I don't think he means that you should let the enemy force walk into your base and annihilate you while you do the same to him. You can have small groups of fast units like zerglings and mutalisks go for or be waiting near his bases, to run in when the enemy moves his army out. If he leaves behind enough units to stop your harassment, his main army will be that much weaker at your front where your main army is defending. If he brings his whole army back, he can't attack you. Doing this also keeps the enemy from scouting or expanding as efficiently because he will be on the defensive. In the later stages of the game nydus worms make it even easier to do.

I'm actually referring to the game he shows in that daily, where the zerg player does actually run his whole army into the terran base after the terran moves out, and I guess in that situation it worked because zerg was hitting terran's main, whereas terran's slower army was at a somewhat distant newer zerg expansion

this happens before either player is very high at all in their tech trees, no spire or nydus networks were even available I don't think

I do get what he's saying about using smaller forces to counterattack at opportune moments, I just don't think that particular moment was a super great example because it felt so risky

edit: I lied, there were mutalisks on the field, and also the terran didn't have stim so he was that much slower

Yeah I thought about it some more and I think what he meant was more that the faster zerg army could get to the terran's main base and sack it before the terran army could slog its way through the zerg defenses to the zerg base and do the same, forcing the terran to retreat to defend his main.

It might just be because I woke up but I think the gap is larger, 1400 minerals 225 gas on the terran side. So double minerals then gas.

If you start a custom game that's larger than the maximum party size, and you invite extra people to the game to fill it out, do they have to be manually reinvited to the next game or do you drop back to the same lobby?
