Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it,
follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given
their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!

Also you know that if they had done the smart thing and canceled the project before release, lots of people would have complained for years about how the publisher was stupid for not publishing such a sure fire hit.
yes, but lots of people are stupid.
The same people who think they could be the next Chris Taylor or Sid Meier are the same ones who would complain because they don't understand how shit works.
you fucking roll a ball on stuff
you roll a ball on everything

I wonder how early in the process they realized uh-oh.
What spring does with the cherry trees.
I am out of Red Dwarf to watch.
I have watched it alllll.
This is the saddest realization.
Wow seriously? I can't believe not only one person but a group of people thought this was a good idea. No wonder. How much was it anyway?

After a while I just uninstalled the bloated mess.

It was like $10 or $15 for 50 hours I think. Which isn't really bad on a $/hour basis, but that sort of structure is just awkward anyways.
I actually like this structure. One of the reasons I don't play MMO's is I don't play enough to warrant the $15 a month.
It turned out that all the previews and demo play were all choreographed to perfection before being released. Nothing was done on the fly. They knew there were deep problems and had to practice shit for ages so they wouldn't show up in demo showings.

I felt the same way as I approached the final disk of Firefly. Intellectually I knew there wasn't any more, but I was enjoying it so much it hit me hard all the same.
All I heard about APB was that the character customization was amazing and that the gameplay was mediocre and repetitive. Which to be fair isn't too far from par for an MMO, but that was the good stuff people had to say for the most part.
Uriel, have you tried finding the red dwarf books? I remember them being bloody excellent
It was great seeing the people try to defend it early on
Was really excited for a gta type mmo
right up until the final days of beta people kept saying the code would still be optimized so that it didn't run like shit on computers that should be able to easily handle it
It's just a beta, they'll fix it!

I hear this about every beta that ends up being a crap game. "Oh they're still running debug mode, it will be better in live". Never true.
So why would you beta test an old version?
I never understood that really. New builds = new problems and maybe changes to old problems!
They're either not quite done tweaking that build or it's being worked on by internal QA folks. Beta testers are not their first choice for actual QA testing.
It's not even an opinion, it's just patently false because you're so terrible at the game that you don't know what you're talking about
I sometimes like absolutely terrible games.
Like auto assault. I liked that game. Too bad the servers are shut down now.
