Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it, follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!

Recommend me some PS2 games please.

I really, really, really wanted to love Odin Sphere.

I got about 4 chapters into the 3rd character's story and realized I was going to be playing the same levels and same bosses over and over, and quit.

Imagine fighting the final boss, which has five forms, five times over with every possible combination to unlock the true ending.

Hmm, seems like I'd have to pay a ridiculous amount of money for a PAL copy of MGS3: Subsistence :(

Odin Sphere was ok, I think I mainly played it for the visuals and kind of got bored before the end of the first character.

That said if the rumours of Odin Sphere in HD as a downloadable game come true then I will buy it again in a heartbeat because seriously, those visuals!

I'm pretty sure it's not a rumor and an actual thing.

Along with murumasa, which I'm infinitely more interested in.

Also I did not like VP2 at all. The voices...

...is that really a real thing? How was I unaware of this? Oh what the fuck! It's almost a real thing!

Wish it were disc-based instead of download, but I'll take it.

Get some friends and get Def Jam: Fight For New York, not sure how the graphics have held up but that was one slick looking game when it came out.

"Mashed" is another great multiplayer title (ugh.. multi-taps D:) but has probably been succeeded by some next gen title I haven't heard about.

Sure they're not industry defining games like ICO or Kingdom Hearts but they are what I remember playing on my PS2 (That and solo Monster Hunter).

I love Odin Sphere, but it's obviously not for everyone. I do think the "you have to play the same levels and bosses five times" criticism is overblown, since the characters are all pretty different, and the story is wholly unique. Besides, each character is around a 10 hour game, which is the equivalent of a lot of action games these days. Just don't try to marathon the game and you'll be fine. (Also, the second and third characters are the least fun, in my opinion.)

I second the recommendation for the Yakuza games. MGS3, God Hand, Persona 3&4 and DMC3 have already been covered, so...

Do you like fighting games? I know you said recommend you anything, but enjoying fighting games is pretty dependent on you having like-minded friends or being crazy.

Final Fantasy X is one of my favorite RPGs. I replayed it a few months ago and it still holds up pretty well (and I didn't screw myself on the sphere grid this time).

Tales of the Abyss has an addictively great action RPG battle system and the story is interesting enough through the first 3/4 of the game, but the environments are very dull compared to other Tales games, the story drags on, and the characters can be exceedingly dense. If you can, I'd recommend Symphonia on the Gamecube or Vesperia on the 360 instead, but Abyss is still a good purchase if you can find it.

For platformers, the Jak & Daxter games were great.

Why was Xenosaga bad? I thought it was good to OK at moments. I've finished all the series though. Wish they made a 4.

And for a complete or somewhat complete rpg list, here is my collection. Of course it contains some that aren't rpg's:
