Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate whips onto 3DS - via Joystiq
No word on a console sequel to LoS; as the blurb indicates the 3DS game takes place, clearly, prior to the epilogue.
Could be good? I guess? Don't have a 3DS. Given the vast amount of time between the ending of LoS and the Epilogue there's plenty of room in there for a ton of games, so I guess we'll see what happens next.
I don't care for the Lords of Shadow setting at all, but indications are that it'll be similar to other handheld Castlevanias in gameplay
So I'm cautiously on board

I'm not sure if this is a popular opinion or not, but I thought that Order of Ecclesia was quite possibly the best game in the entire series, so I'm not exactly predisposed towards embracing a ton of change without some coaxing.

Castlevania settings have been off the rails with pretty much everything post SoTN.
NNNNNnooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo D:
Then enjoy your....Lords of Shadow sequel

Personally; I will, immensely. Just as I did with LoS.
Minus the DLC of course.
Even if they don't, we can. Seeing as how it didn't really add a damn thing at all anyway, between the ending and the epilogue, there's no reason it ever needs to be mentioned again in future games.

It is supposed to be "tickled," right?

I can't tell if you're serious or not.
If you can't comprehend how something can add in superfluous shit that adds nothing, but is still tripe; I don't know what to tell you.
Also I don't know why you even care, since you hate the game anyway. Just move on. The 3DS sequel is in the LoS universe and so will the console sequel.
EDIT: I know Castlevania had some Scorsese level stories and all pre LoS, but I think we'll manage with the LoS continuity for awhile. I mean, "Dracula was resurrected again. Another Belmont will go kill him with a Whip" is Oscar-worthy, but we can suffer.
Yeesh, I can't say I care for "Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - ______" becoming a thing. God, it's like Kingdom Hearts or something...
I don't know, maybe that's not fair. But still...
Anyway, I'm glad Simon is getting some spotlight again, even if he isn't "the" Simon. But if he wears Gabriel's armor... well, that will be fun.

I guess this picks up after LoS with
As for LoS 2; Perhaps they'll do a time merger where part of Transylvania is merged with modern times. Could be really atmospheric depending on the future city.
I think we need some more LoS fanboys up in here!! Only bad thing about that game was falling off the big stone guys. The game was so cash.
I loved the setting more than anything else. Felt more fantastic (as in, you know, fantasy) than most games I've played in the last few years. Finally approaching the castle, and seeing how huge and imposing and dark and cold it was, juxtaposed against how small Gabriel was on the screen, was one of those awesome gaming moments for me.
That said, fuck giant spiders.

Yup, that would be Chapter 2. It's, I think, the largest chapter in the entire game. I didn't mind it the first time, as it really highlighted how arduous it was to even get to the Lords' realms, but, yeah, not a great way to set the pace for a game many were on the fence about.
It really does pick up after that. Werewolf -> post-Vampire is great.

It looks pretty spiffy (given I've played plenty of games that looked great and turned out to be bad). I was thinking of picking it up and giving it a playthrough.

My immediate reaction to hearing that there is indeed an LoS game coming out for 3DS was "fuck, now I have to buy a 3DS." The addition of Trevor and Simon is interesting and shows that they are completely ignoring the original games at this point. Fine by me. I love those games, but as Herpes pointed out, it's not like they were the greatest storylines of all time.
I seem to have loved it for reasons others didn't. I liked the storytelling via loading screens, absolutely loved it. And the length, oh lawdy it was so long that they joy just kept going and going. I also liked how the game kept you form going places via invisible walls, for some reason that tickled my fancy.
It's just a really atmospheric game and you can really see all the love that the creators put into it, every frame is beautiful!
I've said it way too many times, but what I felt LoS really lacked was more classic Castlevania music. To be fair, though, I'm not sure where any of it would have fit. Maybe during the epilogue...
Castlevania threads always make me feel like I'm some sort of weirdo because I actually like the classic style Castlevania games, the SOTN-style, and I really enjoyed LOS.
I'm not necessarily saying this about people in this thread, but it seems like a lot of SOTN fans hate everything that isn't a Metroidvania, and see each non-SOTN-style as a missed opportunity for making yet another Metroidvania, and therefore, a personal insult. You guys got 7 of those games in the last 15 years, and you wanna bitch about me getting a second LOS?
I know you're exaggerating, but if you had played past Chapter 2, you would have discovered that 5-10 part Chapters were not the norm. Most Chapters were 2-4 levels long.
EDIT: Whoa, I just read the preview piece at about.com and I am impressed. That sounds like a great mix-up of Metroidvania and LoS AND classic 'vania! I guess I have to go watch the DLC videos for LoS now so I can get a feel for exactly how this will play out since it's only 25 years post-LoS...
So there's either two or
And in LoS it certainly sounded like there was only one combat cross.
I'm of the "Liked LoS, mostly" school, but to be fair, the Metroidvanias (and Shadow Complex) are pretty much the only place to get that style of game, whereas you can also get the same approximate gameplay as LoS in God of War, Devil May Cry, Ninja Gaiden, Bayonetta, etc. There are lots of modern action games that follow that template -- the only place to get a 2D Metroidvania is the next 2D Metroidvania.
Kingdom Hearts just has weird subtitles, not redundant ones
Ah well, yay more 2d(ish) Castlevania! Still worried about the mention of combos though. I really hope this isn't like... Street Fighter-vania or something.
I need to get around to those DS Castlevanias as well I only played the first one, which I really liked, despite the un-needed touch screen parts.
HoD is still my favorite Castlevania experience though (which many of you probably will find blasphemous). I'd really love yet more DLC or, better yet, a sequel to that.
