Holy fuck, Kotaku. People DIDN'T like this game? Legend of Warhammer? Honestly? How can you not??

    Shit be whack.

I'm all over the sequal. Please don't fuck it up with multiplayer tho.

I hope in the sequel they fix (or rethink) the weapons level grinding. That was just.. a poor design decision.

yeah, that was really tedious. Especially because, if I recall correctly, you got some socketable items that made them level up "faster" (still really slowly), so you were presented with the undesirable trade-off of either under-leveling your weapon, and getting to use the "fun" socketables, or constantly working towards the goal of being fully leveled, and never getting to actually play around with the other modifiers until near the end of the game.

You could level your weapon? I just hit things and they died.

That's an odd direction to go with the sequel.

I figured we'd pick up at the end of the first game, and just play as different horsemen for different parts of the game.

That could have been them heading towards War from wherever they were? Doesn't necessarily mean they were sleeping the entire time.

Wow, the sequel is just going to let that ending from the first game just hang there. What a nice way to say "fuck you" to all the people that bought their game and made it a surprise hit for them.

Yes, forget the interesting post-apocalyptic world they designed for War to run around in, let's not go there and see what it did to other parts of the world. Let's go back in time to the apocalypse itself and do something much less interesting.

MGS3 proved that you can move the story forward while going back in time.

I like the idea of starting with another character; it neatly sidesteps the story quirk in these Zelda-like games where the main character needs some excuse to lose a bunch of abilities at the start so that they can be collected anew.

It seems pretty obvious to me what is going to happen. We'll either be in that post-apocalyptic world running a parallel course to war but in different paces and with different enemies or we'll be dealing with the world as it becomes a ruin and dealing with different enemies.

Considering the name of the game here is deception, it wouldn't be much of a stretch to have all the Horsemen deceived and have to go through all their own quests to break free of the Charred Council or find the truth or restore their powers or whatever. It wouldn't even be a stretch to have the three other Horsemen fighting to get War released so they can all properly be called forth.

My bet is that we'll get something dealing all three other Horsemen in one game, though. The ones that are left are Death/Pestilence, Conquest, and Famine. It would probably make a nice trilogy a lot easier ot pull off by grouping the three of them together, ending the second game with them reuniting with War, and then continuing the third game from there with all four Horsemen.

Didn't they replace Famine with the incredibly lame Strife? Mainly because they couldn't figure out a way to make a Famine character with big tits?

Yeah, in Darksiders the four horsemen are War, Death, Strife and Fury. At least if you go by the names of the legendary slot items.

I have no idea about what they did for the other Horsemen, but I could understand swapping Famine out for something a little more workable. The problem is that I think Conquest and Strife are the same Horseman (mythologically speaking), so it would be like having War and Also War as two of the Horsemen. Not a big deal, though, since the fiction here is obviously not meant to Biblically accurate and is leaning more towards epic and rad.

Although to be honest, Famine could work just fine as a character which relies on draining attacks against enemies rather than smashing them to death with a gigantic sword. Instead of things like impaling them and tearing off their head, you could instead drain them down to nothing and turn them to ash and stuff like that.

It's all a matter of the source material and interpretations. Those are the popularized modern names of the Four Horsemen, but not necessarily the most accurate ones. But like I said, the source material is being used more for inspiration than as a direct source of info so I don't really care.
Them doing so after breaking the final seal would be one hell of a coincidence... no pun intended.

Doesn't seem that hard to write a way around that. After the intro of the first game, War had been "dead" for what, two hundred years? A long time, anyway. Plenty of time for the other Horsemen to do all sorts of things to get War back, then end up sealed away together only to be broken free at the same time thanks to War. Hell, they could even have sealed themselves away in order to make sure all the proper rules were being followed so they could be at full strength when War came around. The Horsemen seem to be the only ones who actually worry about the rules anyway so it would make sense.

Here's how it could easily play out within the confines of the story already in place: War was called forth out of turn and without his brothers, but the other Horsemen were still also freed in a weakened state. Unlike War, they didn't get sent to Earth and so didn't end up getting trashed and out of the game for a century or two. In the meantime, they keep a low profile figuring out what is going on, then move to get War back on the field and rebuild their strength. Once they put those events in motion, they willingly seal themselves away again, now back at full strength, so that everything is in order and they can't get screwed over again when War calls them back out. Considering War does all his business in a matter of days (presumably), a century or two of war and chaos on Earth provides a lot of wiggle room for the other Horsemen.

It didn't seem to me that there actually was a Satan. He would almost certainly have been mentioned? The high demon we did meet (Samaeil? I think) seems to be fitting in that role. Plus, releasing him is all kind of ominous. It just wasn't dealt with in confines of that game. Most likely because War certainly wouldn't give a damn considering the overall storyline. He's not trying to save mankind or anything (little late).

I stopped playing this game months ago. Not because I didn't like it, but because I lost track of what I'm supposed to do. I'm near the end (I think). I have the "portal gun." I've spent an hour in the temple where I use the portal gun. Now I'm supposed to continue in that temple, but I don't know how.

I've tried to watch other videos on YouTube and read FAQs but I still can't figure it out. So I made this video so you can see exactly where I am. Someone please tell me what to do.

Also, how much longer is this game?

Also also, I realize making this video and posting it is very nerdy. But I'm okay with that.

Honestly Famine would've been a cooler concept...I mean, strife, war, and conquest are like fighting, fighting, and winning at fights. Maybe she could've been based around a weapon that deprived her enemies of the ability to attack, move, and finally live. Would've been pretty boss instead of a fairly plain gun.

... They ate, slept and worked. Some of them found uninteresting partners at work who they married and came home to. Sometimes they would half-heartededly thrust into each other and children were made. They lived a middle class existence until their deaths to heart disease and cancer.

I thought it was those four too so I looked up the Wikipedia article:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four_Horsemen_of_the_Apocalypse

    Specifically:
    Pestilence, War, Famine, and Death
This interpretation replaces Conquest with Pestilence. This interpretation is generally espoused by those unfamiliar with the actual Bible texts which describe the Four Horsemen. Though it is apocryphal, this interpretation remains most commonly used as the basis for popular culture's uses of the Four Horsemen concept.

The origins of the name "Pestilence" as a distinct Horsemen are unclear, though certain Bible versions, such as the Jerusalem Bible do refer to Death--rather than Conquest--as "Plague" (a synonym for Pestilence).

So there you go. In any case everyone knows Pestilence hung up his boots after penicillin was invented and was replaced by Pollution.

Actually, according to this dude's blog who works at Vigil, the chick is Fury and replaces Pestilence, and the gun dude is Strife and replaces Famine. At least, that's how the concept art is labeled.

But yeah, I agree that keeping Famine and Pestilence would be a lot cooler if they actually designed something around them. Or maybe they're going just with the steps of conflict, because it's basically Get Angry(Fury), then Start Fighting(Strife), then full out War, and finally Death.

Anyway, I'm somewhat resurrecting this thread because I'm finally playing this game after owning it for months and wish I had voted for it in mcc's poll because it's pretty much really fun

Have a [Darksiders equivalent of a Fairy in a Bottle] with you at all times. You will feel you don't need it, and 99% of the time you will be right, but there is a particular point near the end of the game where you can get save stuck into a big tough battle whilst on low health from just coming off a mid-boss fight, with no opportunity for gaining health.

I liked this game. I haven't finished it. I've had other things to do. The dungeons after I got the portal started kicking my poor addled brain to pieces and I kept getting lost.

But yeah I liked it a lot more than I thought I would. I figured out how to do non canned air combos with a decent amount of variety and the general powers have a nice feel. I also liked the dash after I figured out how to "zig zag" dodge to cancel your recovery so you never stop moving.
I would like next game for them to learn what invulnerability frames are though. That sure would be nice. They should send someone over to capcom and ask about them. It'd be an eye opener for the combat designer I feel.

Maybe another question: should I save up for the scythe first or rather go for extra combo's with chaos eater?

(for example, some possible answers: isnt chaoseater better with stuff like homerun swing/dash - scythe not good enough unless you get combo's for it first, you need to level up chaoseater anyways so you might as well wait with the scythe etc)
