Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it, follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!
anyone interested in organizing a group to brainstorm ways locals can help the pax out-of-towners? so far i've been thinking about a welcome wagon greeting for the pax train folks and designated mbta guides for particular events, but i'm interested in other ideas people might have for using our special local knowledge to help others.
I'm already working on a T guide... If you want to add anything to it, please do.
Basically though... Pick a kind of information you're sure you can provide by say February, and go off with it!
Various lists:
- Help out the international traveler's guide stuff.
- List Delivery places that will deliver to the hotels near the Convention Center
- List Bars that are within walking distance
- List local attractions and their EXPLICIT directions from the convention center (and home!) in multiple formats, WITH the proper cab company to use to get home from said location (Ex: Children's museum, Museum of Science, Museum of Fine Arts, Gardener Museum, Holocaust Memorial, Prudential, Fenway Park, Harvard Square, Davis Square... I could go on but if you're from boston you can come up with some ) (someone make the thread, hell I can provide at least six myself )
- Weather Expectation Checklist (Including that it COULD be 90 out, but probably will be 40 with a snowstorm (maybe))
- Cheap Parking For Ye Olde Out O' Towner (tm)
Really... do what you can to dissemenate info. I am trusting the Hitchhiker guide people to actually collate the info so it can be used next year, but if we never write it, they can't find it.

You can be one of those Hitchhiker Guide people! I am actually working on making the skeleton of the guide so people can work on it and we can start forming the thing.
actually, what i had in mind was not a written guide (hitchhiker's guide seems to have that well in hand), but actual real life people who are planning to go to an event, like pre-pax dinner for example, and volunteer to accompany a group who are less familiar with the area and transportation. i also thought it would be fun for some people who are in the area anyway to do stuff like meet the pax train folks at south station with welcome signs and snacks and other silly things. again, less about information collection and more about actual stuff we can do at or just before the con.
I was taking the scenic route into PAX from work last time around and could easily spot a few PAX goers and gave them a helping hand with finding their way around. As for the Boston PAX twitter account, I really like that idea...I'm just really bad at organizing things, but more than glad to help with anything I can.

I was actually going to work on getting some locals/people who will be here early to help with the PokeCrawl. The logistics are much more involved than last year, so I wanted to get some volunteers to help steer crawlers to the bar area.
So yea ... where are my fellow Boston PAXers at?

that's a great idea, just the kind of stuff I was thinking of. it seems there is a boston pax facebook group, perhaps that would be the best way to organize? it's linked in the "boston meetup november 13" thread (i'd post it here but i'm mobile right now).

Just to be sure, are we just reverting to the Facebook group or is there anything else being done? I only bring this up since the hotel sign up went live.

Well, you can always check http://forums.penny-arcade.com/discussion/139225/misc-boston-area-pre-pax-excitement-support-group-jj-foleys-tuesday-october-25th#Item_244 for our monthly Boston area PAX meet-ups - there are occasional side discussions in that thread about other things going on as well. I try to make sure that everything that shows up on the forums winds up on FB, but it doesn't always happen . . .
