So...it's basically a terrible idea to solo instances, isn't it?

Because it seems like whenever I do them alone, it's pretty damn hard.

But when I even just have one person helping it's pretty reasonable.

What instances have you guys done?

  • unintentionalunintentional Registered User regular
    in my experience it's been
1 person, even one level under the recommendation - impossible. completely impossible.
1 person, correct level - you can win by playing really boring, kiting the enemies and rolling to make distance and using ranged attacks only
    2 people - fun

    I'm enjoying necromancer.

I just wish I had more direct control over my minions like you can in LoL.

My micro skills are going to waste here.

    Yeah, pretty much my experience.

I have done a couple of the human instances and three of the Norn ones.

I've only been with other people for two of the Norn instances, and those are the only ones I've actually had fun with.

And that's the thing, I feel that a necro can actually solo a few instances if they could just control their minions to have a positioning advantage.

I'm so excited for tomorrow, when I get to complain about overflow servers and broken servers like everybody else.

  • theSquidtheSquid Registered User regular
Yeah overflow thing is weird, but that's okay, I'm done with the beta for now.

I approve of Guild Wars 2.

Although the music for Plains of Ashford is ridiculously peppy.

It makes me think of the music they'd play in 40's films during the news.

The first two thief missions I did 1level under and alone. It wasn't easy but hardly impossible. Ididnt ever die though.

I have to agree. Doing the first 2-3 personal Norn quests solo, at the intended level, were pretty freaking tough. I died a few times.

the server/zone sharding is fucking abysmal. Need an easy way to switch to the same shard as your party, because fuck it takes like 10 minutes to meet up with bros to do a heart.

So after playing a few hours of the beta with two different characters, I am...slightly less stoked about the game. Like, I still can't wait for the full version, but I'm concerned.

I liked how GW1 was heavily instanced, largely because it eliminated the annoyances I had with games like WoW and TOR and every other MMO like them. I don't want to compete with people for sidequest spawns. I want to enjoy exploring and taking in the beauty of an area without having dozens of other dudes jumping around. And when I fight through a mob, I at least don't want to be visually reminded that I'm just one of millions who are killing centaur.

Which brings me to the world events. They're a neat idea, but I'm not crazy about how many of them there are. It seems like every time I move a few dozen feet there's another world event going on. They came up so often that I went from, "Oh, hey, these are kinda cool," to "Oh God, not again." I started actively avoiding them. And, honestly, it's tough to tell if you're even doing anything useful in the world events, since there's just so much stuff filling the screen at once. Everyone is attacking all the time and there's a constant fountain of explosions and particle effects. And since I have no goddamn clue what's going on half the time, I just wade in there, mash my hotkeys randomly and hope to God that I don't get immediately targeted by the entire mob and die before I even realize I'm being attacked.

I guess if I were to sum up my issues with this new style of PvE, it's that I don't feel like I matter. I'm just one more schmuck casting fireball into an already huge stream of fireballs.

Thankfully, the story missions still give me the GW1-esque instancing that I loved, but that has the problem of being a little too brutal if I'm trying to solo it.

See this is what I need to hear from people. I only ever played the original GW1, none of the expansions but it was such a great world and I liked not HAVING to be in a party if I didn't feel like it

Yeah I agree that it just doesn't feel that as an individual I matter, I agree with that.

I left some feedback on the forums already though! A lot of minor things I'd like to see and/or change, but I really love it for the most part.

Do you guys know if the little island Rotwing used to chill on is in here?

I think I found it, or something that looks very similar, but it's too far to the east to be it

also I really really really love the little details, I pulled up GW1 and was comparing the Ascalon map with what I'd explored and a lot lined up and I was so happy

and I found that Balthazar statue and it was Badazar

and I found the Temple of Ages had a Kormir statue which was super rad

though I couldn't find a Balth statue at the ToA, which was weird since it was important for getting to FoW, it looked like Kormir had replaced him

anyway EVERYTHING IS COOL and this post is a really long run-on sentence

    Zay, you just reminded me:

I wonder if we'll get to visit Drakkar Lake. You know, the place where a dragon was trapped?

'Cuz I really hope we can.

I always thought that frozen dragon was really cool.

Nah, I'm sure he's okay. He's got roomies I'm pretty sure. I'll give Katy a text tomorrow to see if his phone was in her car or if she heard anything.
