Mitch nods."Well, I hope we'll have fish coming. It's not a guarantee. Speaking of which..." He pops open Sapere's Pokeball, and the Slowpoke appears in a flash, from the Pokeball he was put back in sometime last night.

"Slow..." The Slowpoke looks around, well, slowly. He starts to blink, and then seems to forget to finish halfway through.

"We better get started. I'll guess I'll man the radio, too." He kneels down, and explains the plan - the fishing part, anyhow - to Sapere. "...So, find a good place to fish - I'll trust your judgement in that, since you're the expert - and I'll watch out in case of trouble. Sound good?"

The Slowpoke finally remembers to finish blinking. "...Poke."

So, yeah. Officially going off to have Sapere fish, make sure he doesn't catch anything too big, and see if we can't raise anyone on the radio (unless, again, someone else wants to do it instead). I'll have Pei listen in, too, in case we hit a data transmission instead of a voice channel.

    Ripley looks back at Jamie.

"You mean Forte? Don't really know. He seems to understand the basics, but he tends to cause trouble wherever he goes. After all, I'm usually the one running after him to make sure that doesn't happen. As for Jenine, I'm honestly not sure. Mr. Fuji would always teach flying Pokemon to search and retrieve simple items like a ball, or maybe even some rare herbs. Of course, it took him a couple of weeks to fully train a Pokemon like that. I mean, if we had a picture or something that looked like a city, we could teach our Pidgeys to look for something like that. At least, that's what I think could work."

The Ace trainer listens in on Johanna's suggestion.

"That's a great idea. I believe we should split up the group a bit. You know, to know the lay of the land and stuff. Me and whoever wants to come along with me, we'll find some good firewood, while the others go look for food. In fact, if you're going to go search for food, why don't you take the kid, Jon, with you. He seems to know a few things of berries as well."

Also, Johanna hasn't really told anyone about what happened in the cockpit of the plane that night.

After a few minutes of fiddling with the life preserver and bag, it become patently obvious, even to Jamie that a driftloon, it is not. The hot air inflates the balloon fine, but even with the extra large volume of the bags, the life preserver alone is too heavy, much less any additional weight.

Returning back to where the two bird trainers were talking, she had come up with another idea.
"A city? I was thinking more about Mitch's idea, to see if there was any ponds or other, non-salty water sources around. Heck, I'd settle for knowing where the high ground is. Anyway, how about sending them both up together? The ghost can try to explain what they're looking for, and hopefully the pigeon can try to keep him on task."

Taking out her styler with a florish, she continued, "Either way, count me in on the exploration team. Though hopefully we can find an electric pokemon, I don't know how long the charge on this thing will last."

Oy, finished my final final today, sorry about not posting, but there shouldn't be any hindrances now.

    [Bide] [Otto Pine]
    066MS.png

Ripley probably shouldn't have mentioned exercise to Otto. If Ripley's method of calming himself was labor, then Otto's was playing personal trainer. The Ace trainer found himself hounded by non-stop advice on improving form to reduce energy, alternative exercise methods, Otto's and Gideon's usual jogging route back home, and questions about how much he can bench. When their work is done, Otto suggests that Ripley and he should hit the gym some time, assuming that all of six of the trainers and their pokémon don't die of starvation on this island.

Otto didn't know what to say about the pilot. He didn't know his name, and tried to avoid looking him in the face (because, well, you know, dead person face). He settled for just quietly standing over the makeshift (and probably a bit shallow, now that he thought about it) grave with Mitch for a bit.

Otto and Gideon do a simple workout using Otto's weights, along with some push-ups (Otto feels the need to yell out the number he reaches) and crunches, all the while half-listening to the plans of the others. After completing he goes to Johanna.

"We wouldn't mind searching the forest for food and water with you."

    "Chop!"

"When are you ready to go?"

But seriously, the squirtle or horsea would probably be the most useful partner to the slowpoke, and OOC, 3 groups of 2 would probably be the best for keeping a semi-reasonable update pace, if that is even a thing.

    Indeed we are.

In fact, I've been thinking: What if Jenine gave Handy a lift while she's flying? Since Pidgey's got a Power of 4 (Pokedex from v. 1.19), she could allow Handy (with an Intelligence of 4 - Can build, use tools) to be the eyes of the sky (look for things like threats, or other people/Pokemon), while Jenine flies around, keeping an eye on us while we're exploring.

That way, I could spare Jenine as part of our search party, keeping Forte as my battler (I doubt my Horsea would be as effective on land), and your Ponyta as your battler.

Edit: Scratch that previous idea. Pidgey's power has been fixed to 1 in the latest update (1.21). Unless the GM decides otherwise :P

"So, it's settled then? Then let's be off!"

Ripley summons Jenine from her Pokeball. The little Pidgey brushes her feather before she realizes that she was out of her ball.

She looks back at her trainer.

    "Pidge?"

The Ace trainer kneels down. "Jenine, listen up. We need an eye in the sky while we're exploring this here wilderness. I want you to keep an eye out for strange shapes," Ripley says, as he draws rectangular and cylindrical-like shapes in the sand with a stick, "that look similar like this. I also want you to keep an eye at us, to make sure you don't get lost, and also to know where to fly to if your in trouble."

The young man stands up. "Got it?"

"Pidge!" Jenine chirps loudly, and starts taking off, and soon was flying high above the group.

Ripley looks back at Jamie. "Well then. Ladies first?" he says, as he jerks his thumb towards the direction the young photographer pointed to moments ago...

Alright, my apologies for delaying this farrr too long again, I think I’m ready to get back into the GMing saddle.

    [Camp]

Jon watches over the pokemon fishing. Nemo takes to the water, retrieving some rather young magikarp and even the occasional golden and piling them in a pit on the shore. A ways away on top a rock overlooking deeper water, Sapere stares absentmindedly at the tree line with his tail in the water.

[23, critical success]: Mitch tinkers with the radio but can’t seem to get any reception. Recalling his experience modding his gamestation, Mitch opens up the radio to look inside. There doesn’t seem to be any water damage or any disconnected circuitry, so he closes it again and listens. No matter what frequency he turns the knob to he hears the exact same type of static, with no murmurs of channels that aren’t quite close enough for proper reception. There’s supposed to be reception for an emergency channel practically anywhere in the ocean. What the hell?

Mitch is interrupted as he sees Sapere lift a stocky, crablike pokemon. The carapace is an orange red while the underside shell is white. Sapere stares at the pokemon for several seconds before crying out in pain, using his tail to fling it beachwards towards the two pokemon trainers.

It then occurs to the trainers that their supply kit didn’t come with any fishing supplies whatsoever, especially not the kind of gaffes you’d want to subdue a pokemon of this size.

Mitch identifies the pokemon as a Corphish, a somewhat common sight in many parts of Hoenn. It chitters angrily as it readies itself to attack.

    [Wild Corphish appeared!]

    [South of Camp]

Jamie and Ripley make their way south to investigate the area and find some firewood. Forte and Jenine take to the sky, surveying the area. Forte returns and eagerly beckons Ripley and Jamie to travel further south.

...after a half an hour of traveling, they find themselves in a very wet area. Large pools, sometimes practically ponds of stagnant, dank, muddy water are everywhere with a different variety of tropical tree thriving in the area. Somehow the foilage is even more obscuring here, blocking out even more sunlight than the rest of the rainforest. Heading in any further will lead to nearly pitch black darkness without a light source. The gastly seems quite content to be in this area, phasing through trees and somehow managing to giggle like a child in a candy store in a horrifying, ghostly manner. As far as a water source goes…technically this water is fresh…as defined as “not saltwater”. Jenine is now perched on Ripley’s shoulder, the tree foliage too thick to fly up into the sky. Handy leaps from tree to tree, refusing to get his fur soaked in the dank, muddy water.

This could be a good place to search for pokemon, but any dead trees off the ground are going to be far too soaked to use as firewood. One obvious choice would be to explore further…if you don’t mind getting your feet and pants soaked. Heading somewhere else to look for firewood is also an option.

    [Northwest of Camp]

Otto and Johanna make their way northwest, circling the central body of water the plane crashed into so as not to get lost. They eventually decide to break off from the water and head inward.
The tree cover here is somewhat lighter here, enough light making its way through the canopy to make it relatively easy to tell the time. The elevation is also less uniform.

[14, 17] the lighter brush’s sunlight seems to make this area a wonderful place to gather berries. From the frequency of the cries there aren’t even that many pokemon around to eat the berries in this area! So many berries are around that Donburi’s appetite is more than made up by his keen scent in finding bushes hidden by groves of trees. A bountiful crop of edible berries are harvested, and even a few more for special purposes.

    Received 4 pinap berries!
    Received 2 tamato berries!
    Received 4 leppa berries!
    Received 5 oran berries!
    Received 3 sitrus berries!

As Otto eagerly looks for the more berry bushes, Johanna stops suddenly, wondering if she heard something. Twenty minutes later, she talks herself out of thinking she heard the sound of rustling leaves.

An hour after that, they run into an amazing sight: A large hill with an amazing array of berry bushes on top of it. At least six different colors of berry are visible. However, just as they begin to climb, a quadruped creature with sleek, silver-white fur emerges from the formation of bushes, looking down with intimidating blood red eyes. Its fur bristles as the creature continues to stare at the trainers it views as intruders.

Ripley crouches at a nearby pool of water. He looks back at Jaime.

"Well, I can say there's one good thing about this: It isn't seawater. You think we should take a gallon or two of this stuff, and find some way to purify it?"

Ripley stands up, and scans the terrain a bit more carefully, thinking just what type of Pokemon would even consider making a place as dreary and muddy as this for a home.

"You wanna stay around, and spot for some Pokemon, or should we go someplace else for better firewood? 'Cause I can guarantee that this here wood won't exactly be... perfect for a fire. Or do you want to go in deeper?"

Ripley pats Jenine on the head, all the while glaring back at Forte. "Knock it off!" He yells at Forte. "This is serious business."

Jamie bends down to get a better look at the fetid water, cupping a little bit in her hand.

"Well, this doesn't look like saltwater at least. Though with all the junk in here, I'm not sure it'd be any easier on the water purifier than the ocean water."

Dumping the water back into the pool, Jamie's nose wrinkles in disgust at the streaks it left on her hand, and tries to wipe it off on her shorts.

"The water has to come from somewhere though, maybe if we follow it inland, we can see if it get's any fresher." Gesturing at the giggly ghost, Jamie continues, "At least one of us would probably be happy with that idea."

Giving a dubious look at the darkness in front of them, Jamie releases her ponyta, who scrambles back onto what passes for dry-ish land. Looking around at all the pools of water, the ponyta gives Jamie a look that makes it clear that she is not amused.

"I know, I know, but we really need to find some fresh water and firewood. You don't need to go near the water, we can try walking along the side?"

Mitch looks up from the radio, still mystified at the complete lack of signal. He looks over at Pei. "...We're not inside a Faraday cage or anything, are we?"

The squareduck looks up lazily, snuggled into a little hole in the sand. "...Gon..."

    "Yeah, didn't think so. Something's wrong... I-"

    *splash!* fwump

...Now confronted by a rather angry Corphish, Mitch blinks. "You don't look happy." He puts the radio down, and scrambles into a standing position as quick as possible. After a moment of considering the usual strengths of Corphish, he decides that Sapere wouldn't be much of a match for it - especially if it can put those claws to good use.

"Hey, Pei." The Porygon wakes up from its sand-nap. "Get ready to move, quick." Just before the Flash goes off, Mitch look over at Jon - "Now what?"

Less of a marsh and more of a…pseudo-mangrove forest. That's not necessarily near the ocean. Getting to invent environments is a fun part of GMing. Eh, close enough.

Anyways, spoit in IRC chooses northwest, so that way you go.

    [Camp]

The Corphish, clearly agitated, suddenly begins to glow white. What happens next is not evolution but three white orbs rising out of the ground near the pokemon’s feet.

The orbs take to the sky and fall like meteors, the porygon and squirtle attempting to evade the attack both with speed and withdrawal into his shell respectively. [Apeirohedron takes 8 damage! Nemo takes 10 damage! Apeirohedron’s speed sharply rose! Nemo’s defense rose!]

The glow suddenly fades away from the Corphish and the pokemon, revealing the “orbs” to be nothing more than three small rocks.

Nemo's instincts didn't particularly help him there, and he looks to his trainer for guidance.

Ripley and Jamie decide to head northwest instead of heading into the forest. Forte frowns as he is forced to abandon this place. As they head northwest he occasionally stops and tries to tug the trainers to head south, largely being ignored. He flies up and down with Jenine, occasionally giving a annoyed sneer at the bird pokemon.

As they head northwest the two trainers discover that the forest is becoming significantly less dense. Enough dead wood lies on the ground that some suitable firewood could probably be gathered, though there is not much in the way of water. However it’s getting late, so it might be best to start gathering.

Johanna suddenly realizes the pokemon she’s looking at.

    Absol, the Disaster Pokemon.
…should an Absol be seen by humans, a catastrophe often follows
    …mistaken for a doom-bringer
…when an absol appears before people, it is followed by an earthquake or a tidal wave.
…it can sense even subtle changes in the environment with its horn.

The pokemon growls lowly at the intruders, but does not yet do anything.

Gideon looks at Otto, unsure of what to do.

The two away groups are now somewhat close to each other, but also chronologically separated. Hoo boy, pime taradoxes.

Apeirohedron acts first, the psychic burst of energy being leveraged to smash the Corphish multiple times against a rock. However in his enthusiasm the porygon gets too cocky and leads the Corphish too close, allowing the Corphish to grasp Apeirohedron in between the crustacean's two claws. However, Apeirohedron throws the Corphish away before lasting damage is done.

Jamie starts to gather piles of stick into a bundle to have the ponyta carry before she realizes that may not be the best idea if they wanted to burn it tonight, rather than right now

Ripley helps Jamie gather more firewood.

"You know, this place has been too quiet. You think the others are all right by themselves?" he says, as he felt an air of wariness all around him. That, or Forte was playing tricks with him again...

    [Camp]

Apeirohedron triumphantly lifts up the Corphish one more time before sending it plummeting into the sand, almost spraying Mitch in the eyes. The Corphish does not move from its impromptu crater.

Corphish takes 28 damage! Corphish fainted!

The gathering of firewood is uneventful, with several trips back to camp yielding enough for the next two days or more. Forte eventually stops trying to get Ripley's attention and floats around, bored, for a while before returning to finding other ways of amusement.

The two trainers return to gather one last stack of wood as dusk begins to set. Suddenly, Ripley hears a morose wail coming from the southeast, where the marshy area is located. To him, unmistakably the cry of a ghost pokemon.
