Rather bizarre internet problem - help needed

Okay, starting, oh, 30 seconds ago, I've lost connection to IRC and Trillian.

However: Firefox still works. And by still works, I mean the only thing I can load is the Penny Arcade forums

What the hell is going on?

    Obvious first response, shutdown everything involved and power it all back up in the proper order (usually, DSL/cable modem, router, then PC) and see if that corrects it.
