Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it, follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!
I am looking to get a fairly large 40-46" TV to use as a computer monitor for games/movies.
I currently have 2 computers, each with their own monitors which I intend to keep (one 24" one 20") and I'll be using these for day to day tasks like web/programming/email etc..
It'll basically look like this except with 2 lcd's underneath, not 3.
I need the TV to have:
At least 2 HDMI
At least 2 Component
Speakers (small as possible while remaining decent)
Excellent clarity, I will be approximately 4 feet away from this thing (I'll hurt my eyes! )
Good response time for games (PC/Xbox 360)
I'm open to all manufacturers and I'd really really like to keep it under $800 though if there is something close I can keep it in mind for boxing day.
Roomates just bought this a few weeks ago, LG 42LD450.
Meets all your requirements, 3 HDMI, if you want 2 components you'll have to move up to the 550 model. We only sit about 5-6 feet away from this thing and Xbox 360 looks great. It has a VGA input as well though it only takes audio for that over optical.
Spent a lot of time at the store comparing picture quality in this price range (ie. not LED-LCD's), and this one was the hands down best. The only drawback with this LG is the panel lottery, this same model is sold with both a TN and IPS panel. IPS has much better viewing angles, on par with the LED LCD's and Plasma's. If you're using this as a monitor than not too much to worry on that, as the angles are TN's biggest downfall. If you do want the IPS though you'll need to buy it in a store and not online, check out this forum thread for how to spot the difference. It's basically the W vs. D.
After we got it calibrated at home it was even better than at the store, blacks are black and there isn't too much backlight bleed on ours. That might vary by unit.
