The main advantage of spears come from the fact that 1) they're usually cheaper than other weapons 2) they're long 3) they work most effectively in numbers (note all those links for training were about working as a group/formation, rather than actual martial training with the spear).

In a 1v1 fight or skirmish, the problem is that they're actually pretty horrible compared to other weapons. Basically, they could put them in, but because TES is not an RTS, the advantage of the spear would never be realized and they be either 1) shitty and unfun weapons 2) the best weapons if you can back pedal and abuse their range.

I think it'd be cool if they were in as the former, just abundant cheap weapons and also as an atmospheric thing (certain guards, argonians, etc. wielding spears).

Out of everything in that podcast you guys are discussing them not having spears which wasn't even in Oblivion. What the hell is wrong with you guys? We just got a shit ton of information and that is what everyone is talking about... blows my mind.

I swear to god this is the same thing that went on elsewhere when Oblivion was announced/info-dumped. Folks going on about "no spears".

I could see spears being pretty useful against dragons. Didn't think of that. ;-)

On the gameinformer video info things on Skyrim, the Sound of Skyrim section mentions that they're looking for a deep, gravelly voiced VA to do the Dragons. So Connery would be out, I think.

Who cares about spears when you can throw nukes?!

And not really, the guy is getting up there in years and hasn't done a movie lately, so unless he's a personal friend why would you know his condition.
