Motherfucking shitty-discipline d-men leave Mikko motherfucking Koivu ALONE directly in front of the net for what felt like an eternity (actually about 7 seconds, but still that's fucking forever) and he takes his sweet fucking time to deke Mason like 6 fucking times and nets it with 1.5 left in the fucking period.
Pissed.
I'm impressed that team grew a spine tonite and stuck it out when things clearly weren't going their way (and the refs didn't help). Gritty, shootout win is gritty and 2 points. Still the best start in team history, but standards have been raised.
Sweden is pretty strong, and the Swiss have improved a lot the last few years, but Finland, Czechs and Slovaks all seem to be declining. Basically its Canada, USA, Russia, Sweden and then a pretty big gap.
Doesn't seem to be a thread for it but I just wanted to chime in and say Canada is absolutely manhandling the Czech's
boo urns. International hockey needs to get better, not worse...
I'm not sure what to say here. The Czechs, Russians, Swedes etc.. are all great teams.
Canada and the USA having better teams lately does not invalidate any other programs.
The place the real problem exists is womens hockey. Two competitive teams do not make for a legit olympic sport, unfortunately. The euro's don't seem to be getting any better either.
The New York Islanders decided to trade defenseman James Wisniewski sooner than later, dealing him to the Montreal Canadiens for their compensatory second-round selection in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft (given to the Habs after they didn't sign former first-round pick David Fisher) as well as a conditional fifth-round selection in the 2012 Draft.
And, yeah, I think Womens Hockey is on its last legs as an Olympic Sport.
It sucks that a women's sport might fail because two nations were progressive and spent time and resources towards great programs and developing their athletes.
this... is not how the battle for gender equality is supposed to go.
Sweden is pretty good at women's hockey. Though when they beat either the US or Canada it will be considered quite an upset. Russia being so terrible is what surprises me.
If you don't count the 5v4 against Washington, where the first penalty had just ended but the guy wasn't even out the doors when they scored, well....
I dunno, like 10 min in the last 3 games, at least.

I loathe the Wings with the fury of a thousand suns! 49 shots on goal last night. 49. Hot damn we were outplaying them in every way. Goddamned terrible pk.

You're right a clean hit from head on is exactly the same as shoving someone head-first into the boards from behind.
Good thing you didn't.
Wait, I got those backwards.
Edit: These posts mean; It is hockey, you get used to not every call going your way pretty quickly.
It's part of the game.
Anyway, Chris Osgood just became the 10th goalie to get 400 wins. 4/6 on the PP for the Wings.
I'm not even sure what you're implying I misunderstood; Ovie's hit on Malkin wasn't blindside at all.
Also, what call not going my way are you even talking about?
I agree that it was exactly as clean as letangs "hit"
Like, Letang totally hit Spezza in the shoulder, no question. Both his arms were in Spezza's Left Armpit.
And he didn't even hit him into the boards.
Yay Ozzie!!!

Like, go watch it again.
That isn't a hit from behind by the very definition of hit from behind.
And I agree (with the NHL Refs) he should've received a two min penalty for it.
His hands are pretty clearly on Spezza's numbers at the beginning of that push.
I'd rather argue about it than talk about the Sharks tonight though

boo urns. was hoping to see the gap of competition in international hockey get smaller...

"Flames announce Olli Jokinen as new GM"
Letestu just scored what was basically the hockey equivalent of a Shaq dunk.

8 minor penalties that game.
Thankfully our PK is fucking scary this year.
The shorty helps, too.
