You're right a clean hit from head on is exactly the same as shoving someone head-first into the boards from behind.

I must've forgotten the Blind Side hit rule they enacted last year.

    Good thing you didn't.

    Wait, I got those backwards.

Edit: These posts mean; It is hockey, you get used to not every call going your way pretty quickly.

    It's part of the game.

You're being ridiculous, that's a clean shoulder check.

Anyway, Chris Osgood just became the 10th goalie to get 400 wins. 4/6 on the PP for the Wings.

My cousin made this game: Gem Pop. It's legitimately fun, particularly for people who enjoy Bejewled, Dr. Mario, Tetris, etc. kinds of games. Only two bucks! If you try it out, PM me with what you think of it.

I'm not even sure what you're implying I misunderstood; Ovie's hit on Malkin wasn't blindside at all.

Also, what call not going my way are you even talking about?

I agree that it was exactly as clean as letangs "hit"

Like, Letang totally hit Spezza in the shoulder, no question. Both his arms were in Spezza's Left Armpit.

And he didn't even hit him into the boards.

  • enlightenedbumenlightenedbum Registered User regular
You really are the homerest. Dude made a disrespectful hit he knew would throw a guy's face into the boards.

Or, Spezza turned his back on a player who then let up while Spezza lost and edge and hit the boards awkwardly.

  • enlightenedbumenlightenedbum Registered User regular
He lost his edge because Letang propelled him into the boards. I repeat, you are the homerest.

    Yay Ozzie!!!

Letang seriously has both hands on Spezza's left armpit.

    Like, go watch it again.

That isn't a hit from behind by the very definition of hit from behind.

And I agree (with the NHL Refs) he should've received a two min penalty for it.

His hands are pretty clearly on Spezza's numbers at the beginning of that push.

Guys.. just let it go. We're not gonna change anyones mind here about the hit.

Oh, also Lidstrom with another 4 point night. He's on pace for a personal best in goals. At 40.

Motherfucking shitty-discipline d-men leave Mikko motherfucking Koivu ALONE directly in front of the net for what felt like an eternity (actually about 7 seconds, but still that's fucking forever) and he takes his sweet fucking time to deke Mason like 6 fucking times and nets it with 1.5 left in the fucking period.

    Pissed.

I'm impressed that team grew a spine tonite and stuck it out when things clearly weren't going their way (and the refs didn't help). Gritty, shootout win is gritty and 2 points. Still the best start in team history, but standards have been raised.

Doesn't seem to be a thread for it but I just wanted to chime in and say Canada is absolutely manhandling the Czech's

Pretty positive that all hockey falls into this thread.

boo urns. was hoping to see the gap of competition in international hockey get smaller...

  • CorvusCorvus Caw? VancouverRegistered User regular
Sweden is pretty strong, and the Swiss have improved a lot the last few years, but Finland, Czechs and Slovaks all seem to be declining. Basically its Canada, USA, Russia, Sweden and then a pretty big gap.

I'm not sure what to say here. The Czechs, Russians, Swedes etc.. are all great teams.
Canada and the USA having better teams lately does not invalidate any other programs.

  • CorvusCorvus Caw? VancouverRegistered User regular
The place the real problem exists is womens hockey. Two competitive teams do not make for a legit olympic sport, unfortunately. The euro's don't seem to be getting any better either.

And, yeah, I think Womens Hockey is on its last legs as an Olympic Sport.

  • MatriasMatrias Registered User regular
It sucks that a women's sport might fail because two nations were progressive and spent time and resources towards great programs and developing their athletes.

this... is not how the battle for gender equality is supposed to go.

  • OSUJumpManOSUJumpMan Registered User regular
Sweden is pretty good at women's hockey. Though when they beat either the US or Canada it will be considered quite an upset. Russia being so terrible is what surprises me.

    8 minor penalties that game.

Thankfully our PK is fucking scary this year.

    The shorty helps, too.

How much 5-on-3 time have they killed lately? It's insane.

If you don't count the 5v4 against Washington, where the first penalty had just ended but the guy wasn't even out the doors when they scored, well....

I dunno, like 10 min in the last 3 games, at least.

I loathe the Wings with the fury of a thousand suns! 49 shots on goal last night. 49. Hot damn we were outplaying them in every way. Goddamned terrible pk.

Just got back from the Capitals-Canadiens game a couple hours ago

Near the end of the game some people in the nosebleeds started chanting (ironically I hope) USA! USA!

    I laughed
