I doubt this mission will do any good on the main issue.
The battleships have landed and had enough time to release their payload.
One hour would be enough to move several infection vectors offsite with deployment mechanisms. We can disrupt their establishment of secure facilities, maybe capture leaders. Enough to justify the risk.
But we should write off North American support right now. And, possibly, a large portion of the population.
I've forwarded large scale containment protocols. I hope we never need to use them.
One point, however: carpet bombing the continental United States with megaton-sized nuclear warheads isn't really a 'containment' policy so much as an 'eradication' policy...

Seems protocol on this one is complete destruction of any potentially surviving Chryssalids. Flight suits should allow indefinite protection from infestion for the officers, at least.
There's no such thing as safe in this sort of scenario, but it seems the proper precautions are in play.

Well, you see, if there's more than one chryssalid between you and the landing craft, you're onside, and if you shoot them from behind, that's at least a yellow card, unless you're the last man standing, in which case it's a red. There's something to do with kicking a sectoid's balls into a goal too, but I forget the specifics. Oh, and if you score three headshots, you get to take the heads home with you.
I think the ground troops are calling it "Sock 'Er" or something along those lines.

Not if you're slow, sure. That's what the suicide drills are for. 15 minutes a day, every day practicing how to quickly and efficiently end your life before your body is subverted into a tool for the enemy. Of course, the transition period to a new firearm can cost valuable miliseconds, but generally you can improve success rates to 65% or so.
