Yeah, 2.7 billion, of which 2.4 were Fed and private monies, and of the 300 mil remaining about 24 mil was already spent. I voted for Sink.
Edit: He has also rejected a plan to implement a prescription drug tracking system so that people stop coming to Florida from out of state to doctor shop for their oxy scripts. Many other states already have this, and it works well.
Ed & Larry : "Doesn't matter."
I recently was gifted a thing in Steam. If it was from you, thank you very much!
Because 9% think it's too high, and shouldn't be cut! 9% of respondents could not fully
get their arms around the question. There should be another box you can check for, "I
have utterly no idea what you're talking about. Please, God, don't ask for my input."
At any rate, here's some interesting news. The countdown to another government shutdown is slowly ticking down.
I'm with Sax.
Ghosts are assholes.
Oh man, don't get me started with Ghost.
Wait, this isn't the Blops thread?
I am so glad i am getting the fuck out of here
from the article about how Jim Demint doesn't think any president is the leader of the nation or whatever
oh man
Naw he was too busy making musicals and killing indians.
No, I am not really communist. Yes, it is weird that I use this name.
And yet, the liberals are the ones that are unpatriotic.
Not that that means it shouldn't be cut but it certainly wasn't wasted.
Scott has also withdrew anti-gerrymandering amendments from getting approved http://jacksonville.com/opinion/blog/403455/brandon-larrabee/2011-01-25/florida-withdrew-anti-gerrymandering-amendments .
He's also put forth a budget (which will proabably pass) for state workers to put money towards their pensions, which in theory wouldn't sound bad if not for the fact that state workers* actually make less money than most. Add to that the fact that we haven't received regular raises for a few years. In other words, it basically becomes a 5% pay cut.
He's also looking to cut a bunch of state jobs.
Oh yeah, he's also reducing the amount of state worker pensions in general.
Oh, and yeah, he's also giving big tax breaks to businesses. You know, with the money the state is "saving" by having their workers paid less.
Oh, and he gave his announcement for his budget during a Tea Party rally.
This state is gonna be ripped to shreds by the time he's done with it.
And Yeah. I voted for Sink too.
And there's no sign that anyone is taking action to restore research funding to the bill from either side. It's going to be an enormous disaster whatever happens with the bill, if it passes, 10s of thousands of lost jobs and a crippling of research capacity in the USA, if it flounders, hundreds of thousands without pay.
Holy shit how did I miss this!
65% of the people of this state voted affirmatively for these propositions, and he just throws them all out?! I am literally seething with rage right now!
Nevermind that is less than 20% of the services they provide.

My wife heard through the grapevine that he also intends to limit the amount of money that the state pays towards employee health plans to just $5000 a year. That's so ludicrous that I'm forced to believe it's legit, given what Scott's done so far. I'm damn glad I decided to stick with health insurance through my wife's job rather than going with what the state offered.
Yes, what about them?
I smell a lawsuit brewing. The governor can't just choose to ignore the constitution without repercussion. If redistricting finishes with a result that doesn't follow these constitutional amendments, it'll be an easy case for the plaintiffs to win.
I'm making a snarky point about how the Republicans were totally going to pass legislation to get job growth going!
And this from the party that's all about freedom and democracy and the constitution!
hi
You must be talking about the Bizarro Republican Party.
these two posts have made me rationally angry
(syphon's and burtletoy's, I mean)
GT: batshido Hit me up on ME3.
Why is it that people who are against war don't get to have their taxes not go towards paying for them, but people who are against abortion do?
I really don't understand the process here. He didn't throw them out, but only because he can't. He 'withdrew them from DOJ approval'. The DOJ has to sign off on things like this, he just decided not to bother them with it. You know, because taxes or something.
I can't imagine he can hold them in limbo, legally, for very long; but I'm baffled as to why he can do it at all.
Same here. You'd think, though, that an area whose well-being is almost totally dependent upon state government employment would be less receptive to a candidate that made it crystal clear that he'd be gunning for state employees and would be taking several pounds of flesh from them. Scott's bullshit has just encouraged me to not pursue a career in state government and instead focus on going to law school. What little incentive there is in being a state employee is being removed by that asshole and his GOP cronies in the state legislature. And unlike Wisconsin, we can't do shit about it.
It's kinda like how the CA AG chose not to pursue the Prop 8 appeal, only in this case the FL DOJ will eventually be compelled to submit the amendments for approval to the US DOJ. FL law requires that those fair districting amendments be in force during the redistricting process, and the state is bound by federal law to proceed with redistricting. They're basically just stalling for time, as is their privilege, but at some point the issue will come before a court.
because USA! USA! USA!
I am stealing this line
