Well if my memory serves me well, the average first year student is a fucking idiot who knows nothing about nothing.
So if you're not aiming things at that level you might be expecting too much.
However, I thought the first year was kinda for weeding out the people who really shouldn't be there. Do you have any stats on how many are expected to pass/fail the first year?
