"But just because Sarah Palin should go away, that doesn't mean she will go away. And begging for civility out of teabaggers is like trying to convince a treeful of chimpanzees to stop masturbating. In many ways, it's up to the media to stop swooning over everything the extreme right wing says or does—we have to stop helping the people who are cranking up the crazy—which, ultimately, means it's up to all of us to stop needlessly amplifying their hateful, violent rhetoric."

Sometimes I love the super liberal elements of our media

Heh. Jacob Appelbaum got held and interrogated at the US border again.

This time he didn't have any laptop or cell phone for the US government to confiscate. He did, however, have a couple of USB sticks containing the US constitution.

Y'all know me. Know how I earn a livin'. I'll catch this bunny for you, but it ain't gonna be easy. Bad rodent! Not like going down to the field and chasing dormice and squirrels. This chinchilla, swallow ya whole. Little shakin', little tenderizin', down you go. And we gotta do it quick, that'll bring back the tourists, that'll put all your businesses on a payin' basis. But it's not gonna be pleasant! I value my neck a lot more than three thousand bucks, chief. I'll find him for three, but I'll catch him, and kill him, for ten. But you've gotta make up your minds. If you want to stay alive, then ante up. If you want to play it cheap, be on welfare the whole winter. I don't want no volunteers, I don't want no mates, there's too many captains on this island. Ten thousand dollars for me by myself. For that you get the head, the tail, the whole damn thing.

The slight increase in thirst from drinking soda and alcohol in New Vegas isn't a bug. It's because sugar-water and alcohol are counter-productive when it comes to trying to hydrate your body.

Similarly, most fruits in the game reduce your thirst.

That's a pretty great movie. I should watch it again, soon. Actually, I think I've never watched the original, only the director's cut. Huh.

Also there's never a point where you need "a ton" of cash or high science to proceed. It only costs 500 caps to get into the Strip. That is pretty inconsequential. You can do a few deliveries running around Freeside and make 500 caps. You can kill a few raiders and sell their guns and make 500 caps. That's, like, nothing. And if you don't want to pay there's a three-quest series you can do in Freeside that will get you in for free.

Having a high Repair skill in New Vegas makes you swim in caps.

Soft drinks are in no way counter productive to hydration. Less effective than water yes, but still positive.

Pretty sure it was 5000. I had a few hundred and really didn't want to grind. So I started doing the odd quest, then Christmas ended and the game was left with the PS3.

Doing all the jobs available in the Vegas area nets you upwards of 10000 caps. Like, just in the city. That's not even counting the ones inside the strip.

You can leave Goodsprings with enough caps to get into the Strip if you do the quests there.
    Spoiler:

Yeah I know, but the popular perception is that the sugar in them actually dehydrates you.

I thought about amending my post to reflect that but decided I couldn't be bothered because I am lazy.

And I don't know what you mean about not being able to drink most items you find. Unless you're talking about how the plumbing in most buildings doesn't work. I don't see why you'd expect it to.

I have played through the game three times already. It is definitely, positively 500 caps for a passport. Alternatively you can make a 2000 cap credit check and pay nothing, which isn't hard, either. Or like I said you can do a little work in Freeside and get a passport for free, although the pay from those jobs should allow you to make the credit check unless you have a ludicrously high overhead for every job you do.

As in the sarsaparilla, because of the silly dehydration it causes. If I was going to play it again, I'd go for the PC so I could get a mod to sort that out. It really annoyed me.

  • ResRes __BANNED USERS
...You ignored sarsparilla because it causes -5 hydration? Seriously? A single sip of water is +63. Sarsparilla is a cheap and plentiful source of healing; compared to that the slight dehydrating effect is totally inconsequential. Like for real that penalty wouldn't even be noticeable if they didn't explicitly point it out in the item description.

I was a bit annoyed that I couldn't refill water bottles when I found a clean source of water, like the wells at Goodsprings.

Yeah that's pretty ridiculous, especially since NPC's can draw water and give it to you. You can even draw water and drink it, you just can't seem to figure out that whole bottle thing.
