I hated spiders in DK1 because they murdered all my flies. Who were great to posses and scout with when an Imp broke through into a lava lake. Am I the only one that even found possessing imps and mining with them to be fun?

Dungeon Keeper and Molyneux's previous games are the reason AIAS is giving him a lifetime achievement award, as far as I'm concerned. His post-Bullfrog games are null and void.

My absolute favorite level by far in DK2 was the one where you were secretly launching an assault on the enemy. Like, you had to burst through a wall and then quickly put up a secret door and lock it so no enemy patrols would stumble upon your breach.
Just slowly taking over the lair, room by room. I just pictured the patrols, "Wha-? I don't remember this wall being here...."
Edit: Also the Deeper Dungeons. Was that the one with that one level where you had 100 imps and you had to kill them all within a certain time limit, or was that DK2?

One thing I reeeeeaally want in this game is the "voice." That was one of my favorite parts of the DK games.
"Your minions are getting hungry, they need a hatchery!"
JACKPOT!
I can't remember if all the voice clips were just wav files in the game's directory or I have a vague memory that we got some freeware program on a magazine cover disc to extract them, but I do remember me and a mate flicking thorugh all the voice files in the game and finding two we never found in game (though to be fair we didn't ever finish it).

That was DK1, it was a secret level
Ah, cool, thanks.
If you can find the voices in a playable format, I think it'll be time for me to upgrade my ringtone.

The files themselves would of course be copyright material, but I remembered right on the extractor which can be found here if you have the original game.
I always loved the levels with diamond blocks that gave you infinite gold. I would just go insane on my fortress after I found one of those. 200 lv.10 imps? Sure thing! A 100x100 lair? Why not!?
Then I would still get yelled at by "the voice." He was so demanding!
Not really digging the DOTA-esque RPG mechanics of the dungeon lord himself. I guess a first person mode is too much to ask for.
Edit: Yeah, with the whole pentagram spawning thing and letting heroes build up their soul energy, this is sounding more and more like some sort of DOTA hybrid. Not sure I'm interested anymore.

All creature will die and all the things will be broken. That's the law of samurai.
It blew my mind at the time that on days that were full moons hidden levels appeared in Dungeon Keeper.
Wait, what?
I always wondered what that greyed out flag with the white circle was. I guess that was the hidden level.
Apparently there are birthday messages to the developers hidden on certain days, too, and enemy keepers will fax you if your printer is connected

I'm not sure that 'it's too much like dota' is a legit complaint about a single player game
Also, you would be imprisoning and torturing heroes anyway, right? So...
Ok after seeing that video this is game is looking a lot better to me. I don't really like the neon lighting they are going with, but meh. I don't mind that they took out managing minions needs and replaced it with an rpg style system. At least it makes Dungeons less of a straight DK ripoff and more its own hybrid game.
I loved the first two, but in retrospect the minion needs stuff feels kind of Sims-like. I like that this is upping the action while retaining the base building and planning stuff. The part about heroes being worth more energy the more they roam around your dungeon sounds like a cool system.

Doesn't appear to work on 64-bit OS found Dungeon UnPACKer after a bit of googleing that did the job for me.
Hmmm. I'm still not sold. I've never played DotA, but the way the heroes wander into your dungeon and just hang around seems a lot like Evil Genius. Don't get me wrong, I loved EG. But having spies and troops casually strolling around your base all the time was frustrating. They became fairly hard to keep track of.

Not really. Letting heroes into your dungeon was an incredibly bad thing that had to be taken care of quickly, because they just loved to wreck your shit. They were also easy to keep track of, simply because they'd start destroying stuff as soon as they got in.
This game seems like it'll have an evil genius type mechanic, where the heroes casually stroll around your dungeon, looking for things that interest them and ignoring your minions for the most part. I always found the spies and such in Evil Genius hard to keep track of when they got in, because they'd ignore all your minions and not generate any alerts until they were way deep inside your base.

Hmmm, so it's like reverse Dungeon Keeper. Sounds good, but not for day one price.

I must be a bad evil genius, because I could never get my traps to work properly. My own minions would set them off more than the enemies. Eventually I found a guide for creating a whirlwind supertrap, which did the job at the cost of a great deal of building space.

Oh, I meant in the context of dungeon keeper. Didn't mean to leave that so vague.

Oh! Yes...traps would do a fairly good job of keeping heroes out in DK. Though my preferred way of dealing with them was just to seal my dungeon as tight as possible and amass a huge army. Then break through into the heroes/enemy keepers tunnels and drop all my minions on them.

If you played on NYE (or set your system clock like I did) all the Ghouls would start dancing and shoot off Fireworks too.

I'm not very interested.
