my wifi.

Ok, so my laptop is running windows XP. I have had it running smooth for 8 months. I got it from a yard sale for fifty bucks but it seems to be in fine running shape. Last week I was tethering it to my samsung captivate using pdanet. After this I got home and I could not see or connect to my home wifi that has a wep key. I have tried to restore back to when it was working. I have tried to delete and reset it up. for a while I could see the network but when I tried to connect to it, it would do the acquiring address thing but the Icon in the system tray would not move. any ideas one where to go from here?

Sorry for the poor grammar I am posting this from my captivate.its a hp 2510p

i like that the fact you bought it for $50 is more important than the make, model or spec.

If it's WEP, go here and enter the hex key and not the passphrase.

I'm sorry if this is considered trolling, or spam, and I know it's irrelevant to the subject at hand, but I read your title as "My Wife."

What do you mean by saying you "reset" it? Format/reinstall XP? If that didn't fix the wireless issue, then it's probably something messed up badly elsewhere...

    Ok, to change the key:
Double-click on the network icon in the taskbar.
    Click "Properties"
Go to the "Wireless networks" tab
Make sure "Use windows to configure my wireless network settings" is selected.
In the "preferred networks" list, select your home network.
    Click "Properties"
Paste the 128-bit key the site generated for you in the "network key" field.

If that doesn't work try it again with the 64-bit key.

Uninstall the wifi adapter and reinstall drivers for it from the HP site?
