Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it, follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!

I know most of you dudes have read at least one of the books. I loved them as a kid, even if I did figure out they were eventually the same dang book over and over. Still, my love for fantasy is pretty heavily rooted in Redwall.
So lets talk about how awesome these books were way back when and Mattimeo was totally the best one
I enjoyed them for the most part but sometimes I would just skim it when he'd go on a multi-page description of food or he wrote a bunch of incomprehensible mole dialogue.
I remember the one where the bad critters are winning against the good critters and the good critter Badger King gets pissed and just starts wrecking the bad critters.

This. Holy shit did he enjoy writing about feasts.
I can't remember what books I've read, it was only 2 or 3 I think... I did watch the tv show though! That was pretty cool!
I always thought that the descriptions about feasts and food and stuff was cool
it sort of added another layer to these characters lives, what they ate and what they sang and what they actually did, which made them seem more three-dimensional.

Guy wrote the best food porn, I am very sad to hear he has passed away as his books were a mainstay of my youth and probably part of the reason I find rodents adorable and interesting instead of disgusting. Sadly they are a series of books I found I could not read after I hit a certain age, though I may pick up my copy of Outcast of Redwall, which has been sitting in my bookshelf for many years unread after my mom snagged it for me while out book shopping. Still, its a wonderful thing to be able to suggest them to people with kids.
Also, I totally bought a bottle of cheap scotch once simply because of the fact that its name was Cluny.
i started reading redwall in 3rd grade, i loved those books
my schools library had lots of them and i read them lots
(also it felt cool to read such big books as a 3rd grader)
brian jacques is a large part of why i read so much as a kid
and they were entertaining even through middle school and stuff
and i read one a few years ago, one of his newer ones, just for nostalgia sake, and it was still very entertaining!
The Redwall books were what got me into reading. Like, beyond reading with my parents, or at school because I had to. I picked up Salamandastron when I was 10 years old, it was the first novel I ever read and I went on to work my way through a load of the rest of the series. I stopped at Outcast of Redwall just 'cause I'd outgrown the setting by then, but I loved every book before that. Mattimeo and the Bellmaker were the best. Fucking loved the pirate otters. This is very sad news
Actually, Wiki claims there is one more coming out, in May
I would think not anymore, but if they've announced a publication date does that mean it is in some mostly finished form? I don't know the timeline on this sort of thing

I'm super sad right now. I loved the Redwall books. I... I met Brian Jacques as a kid at a writing workshop thing. He inspired me to want to become a writer

it's kind of hard to read them now because the flaws stick out a lot more now
