Also I fully expect this to come across. It won't stay in Japan. I don't think they've made a game of late that HASN'T come across. Especially if it's selling so well over there. I mean all they need is voice acting and translation and it's brought over. Nothing so crazy it can't be done. And this game has NOTHING in it that would bar it from going anywhere but Japan. It's perfectly fine as an M rated game.
Wow, it's just that easy! Nothing else possibly has to be done to it!
This country got Deathsmiles. It will get Catherine.
That's my point. The main reason we don't see games here is due to content. This game has no extremely effed content that most Japanese games we don't get have. It is perfectly reasonable and made by a company that has always brought their games over for us.
I apologize for what may have been a flippant remark, but it always blows my mind how people assume that a game takes something like a week to localize.

No kidding. Someone offered to translate our games into German for us at one point and in the end, we decided against it because it was just too much work (not just with the translation, but also with programming, UI changes, and QA). Now admittedly, bigger companies than our tiny operation have the resources to do a quality translation, but unless the game is translated during development, it can easily take months for an RPG or other story-heavy game localization.

No it's cool. I didn't mean to say it would take a day. I was just saying I see no reason that they would bar this game from the States like certain other JP games when there's nothing so bad in it to keep it from us.
I was trying to comment on some people who think it won't come over. But in reality it's made by the team that always brings what they make over and by Atlus who is known for localizing games we never thought would come over. So I mean. Yeah....it'll be here eventually.
Anyways though. Didn't mean to come off like that. I was mainly saying I think it will come at some point. I didn't mean fast. There's just nothing bad in the game to keep it from the US and honestly there isn't much to the game other than the scenes and voice acting. It wont be a week certainly but it won't be a giant undertaking like a Persona game would be. Trust me.

Content-wise, I see your point. The sex isn't graphic, and the (onscreen) violence is far less than what you'd see in a Silent Hill game.
As to whether it's a giant undertaking or not, weeeeeell... See, with the Persona games, by and large it was done with individual text boxes triggering alongside a voice file. This means that there's no arbitrary length to the sound files, meaning that we're not beholden to the original text to dictate the exact method and timing of the readings. The animated scenes were few and far between.
If you've seen anything of Catherine, it's like a nine-hour anime with proper timings, voice calls, physical movements, and other things that are already coded in. This would make a localization actually more difficult, since the crew is stuck with the original body movements and would have to make the localization fit within the constraints of the Japanese delivery.
Edit: For clarification, there is substantially larger amount of dialog in a Persona game, but Catherine's production means that each line of dialog is more difficult to redo competently.

I see your point. The game relies heavily on all of that so they'll need to make that perfect too. I doubt it will be too soon but it'll definitely be over eventually. Either the end of this year (I think October would be the perfect release of course), or early next year.
If based on that Valentines they sent out, if that was what we all think it is, then they must already be working on it. Of course. Well. Maybe not. But I'm hoping.

Its not like im some 17 year old looking to see boobies, but i do have a healthy respect for games that arent afraid to present themselves as something not for children and want to know if this is one of those.
I'm just sick of the world generally considering video games as a kids toy.

From what I hear, it's PG nudity, meaning they're obviously naked and obviously having sex, but anything like nipples or whatnot are obscured by arms or blankets or conveniently placed foreground objects.

I can see why Atlus would be hesitant about bringing it over to the US. From the cover, it looks like anime porn....with goat people. Not exactly an easy sell to the mainstream (or even your average Persona fan).
On the other hand, the Valentine's day email seemed to strongly hint that they're planning on releasing it, so who knows?
Atlus knows full well that the people who buy Atlus games are the people who know Atlus, and their games. That's why they've got a thing called "Atlus faithful," 'cause they know there's a dedicated core who'll pretty much buy anything the SMT/Persona team makes.

Exactly. Not to mention I know about 5 other people I will force into buying their games whenever they come out. Course a couple would buy em anyways but the others I make.

As someone who has written more than his fair share of "not planning to release this game" e-mails, that basically means one of two things. Either a) they're already working on it and it's just too early to announce the release date, or b) they decided long ago that they're not going to do it unless something crazy happens. "At this time" is basically the best phrase to cover both possibilities

Well, when they said that about Devil Summoner PSP and Growlanser, it sounded plain.
This sounded like just an extra bit of trolling. "Sorry about that!"

That article worries me about the game itself, though. Makes Demon's Souls look like a walk in the park? Ugh, I hated Demon's Souls. Not because it was hard, but because it was hard for all the wrong reasons. I hope Catherine isn't the same way.

Hey, I visited the E3 NIS booths while you were there, but we never happened to be present at the same time.
My problem with this "non-announcement" bullshitstorm is that it's not a story. Our catch-all line when talking about games that are not announced, whether or not we ever plan to announce them, is that there are "no plans at this time." We could have already decided months ago that we're not doing it, we could be a year into localization and ready to announce the next day, it doesn't matter; that's our company line. Aram said it in his IGN interview last month* about Radiant Historia in a brief Q&A session at the end. This BeefJack site took that quote from last month and put up a story today saying that it's an official declaration that Atlus USA will never ever ever think of localizing Catherine. Certain other sites linked to that story, and now it's a fountain of idiocy stemming from a single sentence at the tail end of an hour-long interview.
We would never say that we're not doing a game, even for games that we've definitively decided that we're not going to do. And until there's an official announcement, we're not going to say either way. Having pages and pages of fans screaming up and down the comments section of every site that repeats this drivel is gut-wrenching, like hearing your child cry in the next room but not being able to do anything about it.
*The only alteration was that he added that "Catherine is Japan-only," which is something that doesn't make any sense. Of course it's Japan-only unless we announce it. Which we haven't. Until it's announced, if it's announced, it's Japan-only. I don't know why he'd even say it, and I'm not going to tip AUSA's hand either way in this forum; we let ESRB leaks do that for us.

I'm pretty sure that that has literally happened to me. It was, like, a Friday and my turn to do customer support e-mails. And we were gonna announce some game over the weekend, but for that day I had to tell people 'nope, no plans right now! check back for future updates!'
