Time to get organized!
EDIT: Please make a post in this thread with some identifier (initials, first name, something) when you join the group so that we know who you are!
Some of you regulars might already be a part of Viv's original SE++ group on Facebook, but if you have checked it out lately, you've seen that it's somewhat dead in terms of engagement. Myself and 30 of my friends recently tried out the new version of Facebook groups to organize our plans for a music festival, and we're all really blown away by how useful and awesome it is!
Here are some reasons why it's really great;
It's right there!
And if you don't want to have it show up on your navigation, simply click the x! You can bring it back at any time. It's great to have quick access to our community outside of the forums.
Group chat!
One of my favorite things about the new groups is the group chat feature. You can easily pop in and chat with others or ask a quick question and see who replies. If you get annoyed by the chat popping up, it's really simple to turn off. When you're on the group page, click Edit Settings in the top right corner, and you'll see this:
This is how you turn off email notifications and group chat!
Shared documents!
This is one of the coolest additions to the new Groups. Anyone can create a new document, and anyone can edit any document! You can see previous changes with ease, and overall it is really well implemented.
My group for the Coachella music festival utilizes the shared documents feature fairly often. Here's a quick look at how we use Docs:
There are lots of other cool features, such as creating events as a group for the PAX's that we run, posting videos, and much more!
I talked to Viv about this, and there is no way for us to convert the old SE++ group into the new version of groups, so I took the initiative to create this new group. It's vastly superior in terms of functionality, and it has made Facebook an even better service in many ways.
