Kos does have KO power, but he boxes like he's in a Toughman contest. His haymakers are visible from a mile away. Occasionally he'll land one, but he probably misses 9/10, if not more.
I don't think Jon "closed guard is dead" Fitch is a dangerous BJJ black belt. He might have a black belt, but how often do you see him going for anything in the cage? If he were dangerous, surely he'd have more finishes and/or guard passes than he does, considering how much time he spends on the ground. If anything, it appears his BJJ training is based around defense, to avoid getting caught in subs and sweeps like Chael always does, rather than attacking with offensive BJJ of his own.
Penn did a credible job vs GSP in their 1st matchup, a lot better than Fitch, Kos, Sherk, etc. Penn was able to threaten GSP on the ground, when's the last time that happened? Granted Shields' BJJ isn't Penn's BJJ, but neither is Shields a LW who trains at Taco Bell.
I think Fitch is just like "well shit if they can't sweep me or threaten me I'll just chill out here" is why he doesn't bother going for subs. It'd be interesting to see him on his back and if he actually does anything, considering his closed guard statements I'd hope he'd be active.
I liked Cheick once upon a time (probably my affinity for French fighters, I'm looking at you Diabete!), but his recent fights/shenanigans are very disheartening. I mean he put on a DECENT fight against Cain right... right?!
I still like him, just a lot less in the last few fights. He doesn't take any risks and it makes for very boring fights. That and his affinity for pants.
Homeboy still has the best physique in MMA, though.
After several months of lineup changes, Shane Carwin finally has a new opponent lined up
The indomitable,
The unsubmittable,
The undisputed heavyweight shorts-grabber of the world,
CHEICK KONGO.
Holy shit yes.
Tomorrow, you'll hear Carwin give an interview on his thoughts about this. He will announce his retirement. When asked why, he'll say he doesn't want to fight Kongo, because, and I quote, "I enjoy living. Fuck that shit."
That does actually have the potential to be a pretty badass fight. But Kongo, man... I just don't know. And honestly, if he had just a tiny bit of takedown defense, he might have fared far better against Cain. I mean, Cain fell over every time Kongo's hand got within 7 inches of his face.
What's not to love? He's had a few rough fights. Given his overall career and the fact that he was one of the first fighters I was interested in, I hope he'll be back in good form this summer.
Cheick fights dirty a lot of the time, no doubt. He's grabby.
I don't think that all of his knees to the balls are intentional. I mean, he throws a lot of knees at everyone. Some of them are intentional reprisals, and that's a dick thing to do, but..
He brings it to most of his fights. The Travis Browne fight was embarrassing, but he was suffering back problems for which he underwent surgery immediately after. There have been so many fighters that have gone in the ring when they had a nagging injury and had embarrassingly bad showings; Frank Mir, Quinton Jackson, Anderson Silva (though he won the match because Chael sucks that much), etc.
um
so dana says winner of fitch/bj gets a title shot next.... except if gsp wins, he's gone...
dana's recent announcements leave me more and more confused

Dana's just saying that in case BJ Penn wins the fight so that way even if GSP wins or loses against Anderson Silva he'll have to do the third rematch with Penn.

But wouldn't you rather see Tanooki Penn vs Anderson Silva?

Holy shit yes, I miss the Penn to whom weight classes meant "more tacos!"

I think we should call him Cabbage Patch Penn due to doug's amazing OP
It would be cool is Kongo dedicated himself 100% to improving his wrestling / jiu jitsu and reinvented himself as a fighter. Because his striking when it comes to MMA just doesn't seem to work very well.

Frank Mir approved. :^:

edit- I posted that video several pages ago. :P
Now who wants to have a pillow fight?
Fedor's orbital bone wasn't broken, and his eye is in pretty good shape other than being swollen. That's phenomenal.
Alright guys, I'm willing to do a bet for the Kongo, Carwin fight. And I'm taking Cheikh.
Also, sad news, Dana White never responded to my UFC in Houston tweet
No, just seeing the news that Cheick is going to be back in the ring after his post-surgery layoff released the unbridled fanboy in me.

you like cup cheick kongo that much

Just as hard as he hits fighters in the crotch.
After all the steroid use, Kongo's usual offensive maneuvers will be neutralized by Carwin's physiology.
Joe Silva is a clever man.

I just can't help but like the guy.
Oh well, Chuck is still awesome too, so its not all bad.
Frankly though, I'm just going to make one now because it's time to update the OP with martial arts like thug jitsu and MMA champions/organizations.
Hater.

Now I have to do well next time.
Seeing your vids makes me pretty excited to start training again come this summer or fall.
Before you guys know it you'll be watching me get manhandled.
Holy shit yes, I miss the Penn to whom weight classes meant "more tacos!"
In fact, I'd say his ground and pound is more effective than his stand up (groin kicks don't count), despite how hes billed as a fighter.

I guess I should say from the bottom.
I recall him being taken down and just having no idea what to do.
