To be honest, unless you are different from me, your faction doesn't even factor into your win condition yet. So interfaction fighting is a bad thing.

Even after looking over some previous games and links, I'm still a bit confused.

First days are often kind of chaotic. Stuff can happen that sheds a light, but more often than not you won't gleam much. Just keep an eye out for sudden bandwagons, too strong bandwagons, sudden shifts, etc., and keep them in mind for later. But realize that Day Ones are crazy, so something that happens today should rarely ever be your main reason for a later action. You want something like,

"B:L was really suspicious on Day Two, and he was also part of that last minute sudden switch on Day One that happened to save a mafia member, let's vote for him,"

not,

"kime was going to die on the first day but then he didn't, MAFIAAAAAAA!"
