Dog Beds

So my dog will be 1 year old on March 1st and I was thinking of getting him a decent bed for the occasion. He's an 80 or 90 pound German Shepherd and the beds that are basically just big pillows get torn up in a couple of minutes. So are there any awesome dog beds out there that are at least somewhat chew resistant?

I've read that cots are pretty awesome. We haven't gotten one yet, due to price, but we have the same issue with our Chesapeake Bay Retriever. Fluff EVERYWHERE. Anyway, here's a pic of what I'm talking about.

I don't buy dog beds. I buy old blankets from the Salvation Army and let the dogs arrange their own beds.

costco sells a good bed, we have a couple of their orthopedic ones. i think they are like 25 bucks. for the most part they hold up well to digging and scratching, but if your guy is hardcore no bed is going to stand up

I've been using old blankets as well, much easier to wash.

We bought a kong bed for our bulldog and just cover it with old blankets so he can make his little "nest". It's been great and he hasn't been able to tear it up.

I used a cot for my dog growing up, it's pretty great product and you can supplement it with blankets if you want, in the winter.

The cot style beds are the best. They keep the dog warmer in winter and cooler in summer by lifting the sleeping surface off the floor. And its much easier to keep clean than a pillow or mattress. I suggest the Kuranda bed - our dog prefers it to a big pillow bed and even our human bed most of the time. If you ever visit shelters or humane organizations, it's all they use as well, for the same reasons.

That Kuranda bed does look pretty nice. Does anyone know if any of the fleece pads or slip covers are worth bothering with?

We use the fleece pad with the basic bed. Not sure of it's any better than just the plain bed, BC the dog doesn't seem to care if it's removed for cleaning

ah looks like i would need a large for my girl. she is close to 60 or so. she doesn't use her bed really much now, except if we are eating dinner. and I am willing to try almost any bed to get her out of ours at night. especially with my wife being prego now

How did you guys get your dogs to actually use the beds? mine has two and i think i can count on one hand how many times she's used them.

Lead with a treat, say "Bed." Or whatever you want to call it. When they sit in it, give treat. Repeat.

Our dogs chewed up every bed we have ever gotten them too, switched to blankets, problem solved. Also easier to clean, easier to store, cheap, and they can configure it however they want.

We used vet bedding for the first couple of years for our border collie, since she loved chewing (went through a couple of old blankets).

I think the first 'bed' we got her was pretty much opened up and soon after destroyed after a month or two. The main thing in my opinion is the material the bed is made out of; it's got to be unenjoyable to chew, not just 'tough'. This tends to be the case of waterproof materials.

The mat we're using at the moment for her is this and hasn't been chewed at all, while blankets are still getting the usual treatment.
