I would have no idea what kind of plant it is. For living in the desert all my life I think I know the names of like...three native cacti.

    Also, BOTP'd, once again.

Really nice greens and reds in that. But no, not so much - not enough vaginal presence in it to resemble her work.

Ok, that's a 10mm lens which is right now pretty much the widest angle lens you can get for a dSLR short of a fisheye lens. As far as I know, Canon makes great quality lenses but if that price is too steep for you, here's an alternative. I'm never one to suggest third party lens manufacturers, but this lens has a great reputation as far as Sigma goes. I'm looking to pick one up myself for my Nikon system once I get some other expenses out of the way.

yeah i thought it was a little extreme thats why i mentioned maybe its not so good for going on a trip to spain and italy with only the stock lens as my alternative

i think ive heard that this is a very very good all around lens:
    http://www.amazon.com/Canon-17-85mm-4-5-6-Stabilized-Digital/dp/B0002Y5WXO/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/104-9510816-0961545?ie=UTF8&s=photo&qid=1179736234&sr=1-1

I have heard mediocre reviews about the 18-55 lens. That and the 28-135 are both "kit" lenses, and are less awesome than their other lenses (or so say some pros I have been talking to).

I know the kit lens is pretty mediocore thats why i want to know about the 17-85mm ;)
If there's any chance you'll be shooting at night, dusk, dawn, or indoors, one detail to look for is a fast lens. I hear a lot of good things about their prime lenses (as opposed to zooms). Maybe the EF24mm f1.4/L (probably expensive) or the EF24mm f2.8. The 2.8 isn't "L" glass (L glass is Canon's best glass with maximum sharpness and color value) but the 2/8 makes it still pretty fast. You'll appreciate that in low light. Or else one with IS would help you in low light. Canon also has 20mm, 14mm. Those are both f/2.8 lenses.

if im taking night shots they will probably be long exposure with a tripod (im buying one of the super portable ones..)

It is maybe a bit in the first one, the second is fine because that third marble is what is being shown.

Spent most of yesterday wandering around NYC. Here's some of the few digitals I took. City shooting is tricky. Too much stuff going on that you don't know what to shoot!

Yeah. Just a little. Dark subway, horrible tungsten lighting, didn't want to push it past 400 ISO, and widest aperture. Had to shoot that a few times to get rid of the more obvious shake till I was happy with it. Camera LCD screens don't pick up subtle shake too well :(

Also, I have no idea what kind of flower that is. I don't know anything about flowers haha. I just know that purple/magenta flowers turn out real well in my photos so I make a point of shooting them. I found that one somewhere in Rockefeller Center in NYC. There was a bird of paradise flower there too but the lighting was horrible around it so I didn't bother shooting it.

I'm going to have to agree with Salty and say that Anna's DoF is too shallow for me, too. In the first shot, only the brim of the cup isn't clear, and it just feels off. The second shot, only like half of the green and half of the red is clear.

Saint, nice colors on the flower. Gives it a nice dead feel that matches the withering flower.

I know it's no excuse, but the lighting was so poor in the room I had to use 1.4 aperture.
