Wasn't too sure about the keypresses, but I mentioned it anyway
Why the fuck don't high level players ever use them? That was the most awesome zerg play I've ever seen. I cannot recall ever seeing one used in a tournament, and I honestly can't understand why they aren't used more.
I believe it's because by mid-game, players have vision of pretty much their half of the map. There's nowhere you can sneak a nydus worm. It relies on your opponent being dumb and not noticing the giant enemy-colored square throbbing on their mini map. As for using them as retreat paths, I guess that's possible, but zerg units are already the fastest in the game so they don't have trouble retreating (unless they're hydras), but people are bypassing that by doing drops, not worms.
because its cool and all that it saw some success on funday monday but its not really viable in tournaments
edit: having said that, I really wish I could find ways to use nydus worms a lot more
maybe for supporting further away expansions in the GSL maps or as retreat paths
I dunno
I also loved how they used them for speedy retreats and expansions in unusual locations, like the islands.
because if you have a nydus at a base that an enemy is pressuring, it takes quite a while for the nydus to unload all the units you need (and you typically need quite a lot) to defend the base
this is in contrast to brood war where you could instantly reinforce any area that had a nydus near it
maybe having two or three worms at a base could work defensively, but that seems expensive. I guess having a scouting ling to accomodate for the time needed to unload units could work.
as to your comment about expanding on islands, there aren't really any maps that use islands anymore.
actually I do remember dimaga making use of the nydus worm to double expand on the islands against whitera in lost temple. I think it was in a blizzcon game
I'll have to watch the nydus funday monday for more ideas I guess
look, I'm not saying "why don't I see catz and idra doing funday monday builds"
I'm just saying "it's odd that I see a tool in the zerg arsenal that seems pretty damn useful in several situations but never gets used"
I definitely plan to play around with nydus worms, but then again, I'm in the lower leagues so it won't mean much if I do well with it till I move up.
But he is/was insane so that's probably why.
I think
because the usefulness of the main function everyone considers the nydus worm for (sneaky drops in the main) is useless and so the stigma causes everyone to shy away from using it
it probably is really useful in certain situations but I think people consider the money that would have been placed into more units more useful than what a nydus can provide.
basically there needs to be a build that incorporates nyduses that works really well consistently and has also been seen by a lot of people before anyone will consider starting to incorporate them in anything
also, peacekeeper what happened to your cool medic sig
actually you kinda do see catz doing funday monday builds.
its sort of his thing
and then he later talks about how broodload/mass queen isn't really that good
well yeah but still that sort of forestalls any argument that high level players aren't being creative
they do try these things out and the verdict is usually "this is pretty cool but not very good"
which then answers raiden's question about why they aren't used in tournaments

IM vs ZeNEX
fOu vs TSL
but ZeNEX is harder to pick, they have san and Byun.

Sidenote: I booted up SC2, and one would think that now since I'm unemployed I'd be all 'SC2 all day eeryday', but I just can't seem to focus :?
