Bioware - You have been assimilated Op Ed

I have a new Op Ep posted which you can read in the Blog section under the Article main menu entry.

Then during development, Bioware merged with a small publisher. We were told 'nothing will change at Bioware'. Fair enough and that probably was true, or at the very least the upper management believed it. However, the new entity was then bought up by EA. That was the beginning of the end.

I posted, and the bio-fanboi's ridiculed me for, shortly after that announcement that Bioware will cease to exist sooner or later as we know it. As it is only a matter of time before EA does away with the autonomy at Bioware and wants a more hands on approach of controlling it's new asset. I however stated at the time it will happen either one of two ways;

Afterward we had the lack luster Jade Empire. Good effort just not a great concept. Or at least one the gaming community was willing to embrace.

I'm sorry, but what? It's was a brilliant concept, and to my knowledge the first WRPG to have a setting based on Chinese Mythology. And "fanboi"? Really? Is the "y" too offensive to your tastes?

But... but but... I liked DA2's combat! That was one of the things that made me want to purchase the game! Then I saw the stilted animations and the poor voice acting (yay opinions!). Then Brutal Legend arrived from gamefly and I played it for the first time. Dragon who? What Age?

Couple points;

To those that this applies, get over yourselves. No one held a gun to your head to go to my site nor read it. I at the very least posting something of substance, unlike whine posts.

As for ME fair point, frankly I never played it thus honest mistake I skipped over it. But as a whole I gave them kudo's for the past so one gets the idea.

As for JE, sales say otherwise that the concept was embraced. If it was a success no doubt JE2 would be out or even in development. Also considering Bioware themselves stated the underwhelming sales figures of JE, thus I stand by my view.

as for fanboi.. I was having some fun.. lighten up.

I'm so glad I stopped being disappointed that Bioware would never make another Baldur's Gate 2 when they released KOTOR and not 7 games after the fact.

I bought Jade Empire like three times, and I've dumped to many hours into it.

If this happens I am just going to give Bioware a large pile of money.

Jade Empire 2. With quicktime events. Action combat system. Streamlined rpg mechanics. Next gen graphics. Fully integrated achievement system. In-depth romance options for all sexual preferences. Cutting edge blood splatter engine. And obviously, a space hamster somewhere.

I hear the DLC has already been announced.

Y'know, I just realized why I though the combat in DA2's demo was off.

It didn't feel like Dragon Age.

It felt like Jade Empire.

I really, really liked Jade Empire. More so than I enjoyed Mass Effect or KotOR. They were all great games, but the setting of JE and the mythology behind it captured my imagination more than the latter games did. Maybe it was because I played it when I was much younger, but I do have a really soft spot for it.

So yeah, if they announced Jade Empire 2 I'd be all over it.
