Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it, follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!
[From Dust] droppin' lava like it's hot. out now on 360 and PC.
What is this game?
Well- Look!
Also this is like that but in words!
From Dust puts the player in a god-like perspective, with the goal to control an island and protect its inhabitants, using tools such as moving or spawning sand, lava, water, and vegetation. The player can also fight off several natural disasters, and gains new powers doing so.
basically this game is like poetry in motion and it's due out this year for 360, and PC. It seems like a natural fit for / Move, but no word on that yet. If that video doesn't give you 12 boners you need to think about your life and goals, and really prioritize your motives- to this game.
TELL ME YOU WANT THIS MORE THAN ME, AND I'LL LAUGH THEN PUNCH YOU
Now all we need is Peter Moleneux screaming about how epic his AI is going to be and... wait... Ubisoft? Sweet!
So what's the catch? Who are the bad guys? Sandboxes are great, but I need plagues of evil humans to wipe off the face of my beautiful island!

the 'bad guys' so far appear to be natural disasters like floods, earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanic eruptions. the idea is you'll use your powers to aid the humans during and after events like that.
though they could introduce enemy tribes
And Molyneux isn't involved! That's like, double-awesome.
I kind of wish they would leave out strong goals or storylines and leave the humans as kind of like a nest of ants; just a lot of tiny living creatures in your sandbox that you have no hard-coded moral investment in. Ideally for me, you'd be able to screw around with them, babysit them, or even wipe them out without losing the game.
This is one thing that the Black & White series was so missing.
I want to build giant mountains and flow down lava, then water. Then I want to make a really tiny split with earth down the flow, and turn it all into a twisting, turning dueling river of lava and water.
I want to make my island an endless stream of unfinished concepts until it resembles something out of Cthulhu's mind.
I already know I would build a huge Atol with white sandy beaches to gently sloping hills on the inside and rough cliffs on the outside. I can imagine the beauty in my mind... I want to build it!

This looks pretty interesting. Kind of what I assumed Sim Earth would be when I rented it as a kid, only to find out it was a bunch of fucking spreadsheets on SNES. Granted, I was probably too young for it, but whatever.
Also I had a super faint hope that this would be a "Dust: A Tale of the Wired West" thread. Cause' that was one weird game.
They're gonna bury you, they're gonna finish. They're gonna stand 'em up six by six by six.
Damnit man, I thought you'd created this thread because they'd announced a release date and it was coming soon.
But yes, I'm very interested in this game but mostly because the Chahi is involved. Hopefully he won't leave the industry again after he's finished this.

I doubt my computer could run this, so looks like a 360 buy for me.
Hopefully there'll be a demo, as I tend to enjoy god games for a few hours then get bored and don't pick them up again. The strength of the campaign will make or break this, I think.
I'm tempted to export that and lime it and post it below... but I won't. I'll just say Amen.

So I visited their website. It's pretty bare bones, but it has a different video than the one in the OP. It looks like you will be caring for your hoo-mons. So like Black and White, but without a monster? And possibly good?

Spore was more than a God game. It was... it was... It was a shooter, and an adventure game, and a city simulation, and a civilization clone and and and... It was too much.
Spoiler:
But I loved it.

Wow. There's no doubting they have a beautiful island creator/destroyer engine going on. I just hope they manage to get a compelling game in there as well.
From Dust: From the Guy that developed probably the best game of the 20th century, and who's style was ripped off for another prime example of one of the best games of the 20th century
I'm pretty much just gonna spend the first day I own this pulling up ground, watching water pool, dumping that ground in a river and watching things happen.
God bless you, physics.

I thought I'd be able to pit my mob of religious zealots against some other god's mob of religious zealots . . . the way God intended.

And then do it again.
I want to play this game.
That's the reason to care.
Welcome to the world on this side.
I had heard this was from the guy who made Another World.
Even more interested now.
Hmm...
There we go. This is a god game after all.
I never asked for this!
Also I had a super faint hope that this would be a "Dust: A Tale of the Wired West" thread. Cause' that was one weird game.
Now let's just hope there is enough of a game in there beyond "have fun."
(I love me some sandbox games, but without some goals they don't last me a lot.)
Me blogging about my (amateur) indie game programming

This. I have to wonder how much longer we have to wait, as it is the concepts alone hold enough promise but man I want my hands on the real thang.
Rock Band DLC / A Cheesecake Recipe / Xbox Live
Black & White 2, I guess? I never played it, but clearly it doesn't inspire much love.
This is probably my most anticipated game of the year. I have often lamented the death of the god game.
Edit: Forgot about Spore. Yeah...

Viva Pinata. Duh.
I'm liking this trend of sandbox games that are more experience than story. Minecraft's success was built on this, as was Dwarf Fortress.
Come to think of it, this reminds me of a simplified Dwarf Fortress, except with an interface that's easier to use.
God bless you, physics.
