Are the commentaries worth listening to? I normally don't turn them on in anything I own but people have spoken pretty highly about them here.

The commentaries are pretty funny but don't expect them to have anything to do with the episode
The guys have absolutely no use for fan service and seem to actively dislike people who enjoy what they make
They look at commentaries as solely another opportunity to fuck about together and it is supremely entertaining

Nah they love their fans. They are just dedicated to how they want their show to be and how they see their characters. A prime example is the triana/dean relationship, listening to them talk about that on the commentaries was pretty enlightening.

And yeah venture commentaries are absolutely the best

True, but that's still a really long time to put together a season of a TV show. Lots of other shows have exceptional quality and are still able to maintain a decent schedule.

Either way it wouldn't really be fair to compare this to other shows. Considering how many people work on it, it didn't get renewed until March of this year, and pre-production didn't even start until June.

Also, the wait time isn't unusual. Around two years between the seasons has been the norm if my memory is correct.

As BusterK mentioned, Doc and Jackson are painstakingly involved in every stage of the show's creation. Not to mention World Leaders shut down after season 4 so I imagined that impeded a lot of progress.

And a year isn't a really long time to put a season of a well animated tv show together at all.

The last episode aired in November of last year, and they're still at least a year out before new ones start. So that's nearly 2 years between seasons of a show. While I do not fault them for wanting to take their time and make it good, you have to admit that it is extremely uncommon for a show to take that long between seasons. Your average TV show only takes a few months off between the finale of one season and the premier of the next. You have to look at both sides. Yes, they're really trying to make it good, but man, 2 years between episodes is a really damn long time to wait when it comes to TV schedules.

Wait time between end of season 2 and the beginning of season 3 was 20 months

Wait time between end of season 3 and the beginning of season 4 was 14 months

If season 5 starts in say Aug of next year that would be around a 20 month wait.

I agree that it sucks to wait but it's not like any fan of The Venture Bros. shouldn't be accustomed to it by now.

It is a long time
But the reasons why are very clear
They want to do everything themselves and they want it done their way
That takes time
It's not even a regular show anymore
The last two seasons aired in the middle of the night on television when no one was watching
It's pretty much a web/straight to video series at this point
