This game runs.. Kinda crappy for me.
Gonna try beta drivers for my 560ti, but I can't see them making much difference.

Try giving the tweaks in the op a whirl while you're at it. They've boosted my performance considerably and made the game look better without putting any additional strain on my system. Though I'm going to probably have to rehost that AA file, I don't think the original link works anymore. I'll have to do that when I get home from work in the morning.

Sadly, Tera is very CPU-intensive instead of being vidcard intensive.

Using that ability is actually normal, the issue is when you also suck at avoiding damage.

Oh no, I know. The warrior was actually a pretty good tank for claiming to have never played the game before open beta. At my suggestion, we dragged the final boss of SM back to the room before the boss room to give it less room to run around and that let me stay by the door to tag it with sleep if it tried to bolt off to summon its adds.

We encountered a bug that kind of cocked up a run and we had a wipe. Where somehow the boss aggro'd some mobs from several rooms away that we skipped while we were clearing trash. So we had to deal with them on top of the boss and while being chased by a man with an axe I missed a sleep and got the adds. WELP.

Another problem was the warrior was an Elin. And I had to get into the habit of sweeping my titanic favor across everyone's feet instead of chest level like I'd usually do, otherwise my reticule would whiff right over her goddamn bunny ears.

When you pull the final boss - the pairs of mobs in the room with the sealed door come to his aid. If you clear the 2 pairs ( I think it was 2 pairs + a patrol but you have to kill the patrol on the way toward the ladder) then you won't have those adds racing in to get you from behind.

Why do you build, knowing destruction is inevitable? Why do you yearn to live, knowing all things must die?

What kind of performance are you guys getting? This can't be normal.

I get around 60-75 fps on average. dips into the 40s and 50s if there's a lot of clutter though.

EDIT: There has been some issue with poor, stuttery and downright unplayable conditions among a few people. A couple I know, people with mid to high-end machines. One has been in direct contact with EME and found the information they've been fed, quote, "Upsetting". But have been unable so far to determine if the problem is on their end or if they are getting throttled somehow by their ISPs.

It dropped down to 15 when I was in the tutorial thing with all the demons. Not sure if that'll happen again, but it was a little confusing. Sorta hard to see what's happening.
Still, I am considering preordering it anyway.

My machine is an i5 2500k with a 560ti video card and 8gb RAM, and while I don't have anything to measure the framerate, the game runs smooth basically all the time. Your specs don't seem too far below that (though you didn't mention memory) so it's possible there's something borked in there... maybe hard drive needs defragged, or your drivers out of date. Not just video drivers, check for chipset drivers.

Also, if it was only the prologue, it might just be an issue with that since it was so recently tacked on. Try running around on Island of Dawn and see if it isn't better.

Thing to do: Add the vent info into the OP. Since I know a lot of your guys want to chat at each other. Using your voices. How arcane.

I'll take care of it once I get home from work.

Oh hey look, another promising MMO fucked up by its EU publishers

I don't understand. Off the top of my head I can't think of any mmo which has had separate EU and US publishers where the EU hasn't been fucked by them. DAoC used to actually get patches literal months after the US version.

It's not even really the blood that annoys me, I played WoW for years and that's full on cartoon levels of violence. What worries me is that everything in future made by EME will be with the higher rating in mind, so us in the EU are going to have additional censorship to look forward to in the future.

Also, if we eventually get into GvG I want to let you guys know that for every victory you secure I will erase a fond memory. But for every defeat I will steal a year away from the end of your lives out of spite.

8GB of RAM. Drivers are all up to date. It's better on the area after the prologue, but the framerate still dips quite a lot in places. It's a little frustrating.
Some of the people playing it are real dicks too.

I don't know how to bring up the FPS meter, but the game runs just fine for me. I have it on max settings except for the real-time shadows and MSAA since those are gigantic hogs for little visual gain. And I'm just on a Q9550 from 3.5 years ago and a Radeon 5830.

Several Euros were in beta this weekend reporting no issues with lag, so... that's a possibility if you want to just purchase the US version. Of course, play times might be a little awkward, but it may be worth it.

I honestly don't even know where this problem is coming from. I mean... is there like a ton of blood later in the game or something? I have the 'Lurid slider' cranked to the right and don't ever really see anything I'd call remotely gruesome.

It also sounds like something that would be fairly easy to fix manually client-side. Just because there's no UI option for it doesn't mean the option itself is gone and Unreal is pretty famous for storing things like that in text .ini files.

My system is similar to yours - 560 Ti, i5-2500, 16GB RAM - and the game ran flawlessly for me on high settings. I didn't look at the actual framerates but I didn't notice any slowdowns really at all. I'll have to double check tonight.

I have twice as much RAM, but I'm not sure that'd make that huge of a difference.

note to nvidia users - you can use nvidia inspector to enable real AA, you just have to set the profile to something compatible. Starcraft 2 works for me and the game looks much better, gets rid of blurry text. setting threaded optimization to ON is also a good idea.

So my girlfriend was watching me play some Sinestral Manor runs this weekend and has now preordered the game for herself. She has a bit of experience with WOW but I'm curious to see what her reactions to the various components of Tera are going to be. She's a very visual person so I think the landscapes (e.g. the youtube video Destian linked above) will be very cool for her. It'll be a learning experience for her, though. Especially dungeons and the like (something she never really did in Warcraft).

That said she wants to make a Castanic male because, and I quote, "they're hilarious."

The current version of nvidia inspector includes a Tera profile that you can edit to enable AA and other things if you like.

yeah that's exactly what I'm talking about. under the Tera profile you have to choose a compatibility mode because Tera doesn't have it, even though it has a profile.

What I said in my edit:

"under the Tera profile you have to choose a compatibility mode because Tera doesn't have it, even though it has a profile."

Tera doesn't support real AA by default, so if you don't set a compatibility there's a good chance it won't work properly.

I realize that, hence my question. Why did you choose Starcraft 2?

Because Starcraft 2 is a stable compatibility setting? I don't know what explanation you want or why you are intent on proving something wrong - the things I suggested and what you posted are the same, except this person edited theirs for even higher quality - you can obviously bump it up to whatever levels your PC can handle and it varies from user to user.

Someone did a full write-up at the following link:

Woah defensive much? I was just curious why you chose Starcraft 2 over other games that may be more similar (such as games that may actually use the unreal 3 engine).

And in reading through your link, that guy doesn't give a reason for it either. Ah well.

It's funny, I picked up a card at PAX telling me about the open beta for this game knowing almost nothing about it (beyond it being an action MMO). Figured I'd check it out, then the Diablo 3 open beta decided to fall on the exact same weekend. I thought I'd probably check out TERA for 5 minutes when I couldn't log into Diablo 3, but in an unexpected turn of events I spent about 20 minutes playing D3 and the rest of my free time trying different classes in TERA.

Long story short, D3 went from a day one purchase to an "eh," while I'll probably be picking up TERA asap.

    PVP server report.

Had some of the poopsock crowd that raced to level 32 and then ran around isle of dawn, lumbertown, and the SB entrance griefing. Most of them ran once there was an even force to oppose them.

Another trick that was prevalent was having unflagged spotters move through channels to locate people, then bring the guild at war team to team up in an alternate channel, then spring out on top of the others.

Hit 32 on my mystic, have a gold weapon and shirt both enchanted to +3. Considered trying for +6, but the death threats intimidated me.

Sorry, should have elaborated. People on the voice chat threatened other guild members with doom if they dared spam the server with +6 enchants.

You can turn that crap off, but it reverts as soon as you zone, and soft transitions were also doing it.
