Oh man, I've been wondering where this thread went! I haven't been getting out and about with my camera for a good while, which is sad, but here's a selection of fairly recent photos (top 2 are from my iPhone, which has a really decent camera, given that it's a phone).
Also, I saw someone a couple of pages back asked about selective colour in photos - what's the general perception of using selective colour? I lurk the SA photography forum and they hate it, but they tend to get a bit circle-jerky over stuff like that, so I'd be interested in hearing if it's a common sentiment or not.

That photo of the sphere and the door are incredible! All of those shots are well done, bravo!
Well I may have been drunk when I was trying to play photog at Oktoberfest but I still managed to get some so-so shots while there and here they are!

There we go! The day light pictures were taken with 1/2 of a pitcher of beer. The rest were with another half and some more of beer in me. So much so that I forgot to use my speed light and a lot of photos blurred as I got wobbly. I finally gave up and went on to party the last 4 hours I was there. The guys in the sombrero are from Munich. They said our Oktoberfest was the best they had ever been to outside of Munich and was better than many of the ones in Germany!

I really like the pair of photos with the lone guy sitting on the side of a picnic table, just kinda chilling and drinking a mug of beer that is almost as big as his hat.
Also, for the fire photos, i think my fave (for I don't even know why) is the motorcycle that got burnt up. something about that photo just hit a chord with me as very pretty.

So the focus ring on my favourite general-purpose 16-80mm lens seems to have busted itself for no particular reason between the weekend and Wednesday; it's new lower bound for focal range seems to be about 5 feet instead if 18 inches. Right when I'm suddenly taking a bunch of baby portraits at half that distance.
So, naturally, I used it as an excuse to go out and buy a new Prime lens specifically for that purpose. New lens get!
Hopefully the zoom either corrects, or at least doesn't get any worse. I damned near love that lens.
That's unbelievably cool. Your new name is cool guy. Let's have sex.

I may as well crosspost these here from the space thread as they are are still photos I have taken that are fit for human consumption.
This is Full moon and Full Jupiter at the 2010 point of closest approach. I happened to be in Fiji at the time, and snapped this overlook of the beach and resort at Mana Island.
Some more recent photos taken on my trip to Maui earlier this year:
Big Dipper over the beach at Black Rock. Mars creeps in at the top right corner. The Big Dipper isn't a part of my regular night sky, so I tend to enjoy those times I get a chance to shoot it.
Haleakala Crater Summit Visitor Centre just as the stars come out and with Sunset reflected in the windows.
Scorpio and the Milky Way rising over Pa Ka'oao (White Hill) at Haleakala Crater Summit. If you look carefully you can make out a shooting star rising almost vertically near the middle of the picture.
Big Dipper and the northern sky over West Maui as viewed from Haleakala. At 3,055m, the volcano summit looks down on the clouds below, which are lit orange by the Sodium lamps of the islands highways. On the right you can see the lights of Kahului, while on the left four red lights mark a string of wind turbines running down the West Maui Mountains.
Apologies to anyone who has just been subjected to me repeating myself in two threads.
