Got my latest shipment from the cabin today.

Three bags of fish (two perch, one catfish)

    Three bags of rabbit
    Two bags of squirrel
    One bag of turtle
Four dozen hand made deer tamales
Two feet of hand made venison sausage

I will eat well this month.

Usually when I mushroom hunt in the spring I follow streams to find low moist areas. I keep a look out for places where fish bed in the open (most hide in the undercut areas inside the banks). If I find a grassy spot near a fish bed I'll rest there and watch the fish for quite some time.

They are oddly captivating and they can see me when I move. I was always used to lake fish that could only seem to hear you.

I can't eat the fish around here because of pollution so I don't catch them but I liked to dock fish as a kid.

Dads who take their kids fishin' are the best dads. Also, I feel for ya 'cause I've had a wicked widows peak since I was like, 19, courtesy of my maternal grandfathers genes I think.

I haven't fished since high school and I want to start again this summer. I am fairly certain I will never go noodling.

    Gentlemen, I present the Piker:

    Blue-Fox-Piker-Gr3_Farbe_FT.jpg

I've pulled a few truly ancient pikes out of lakes with this tool of war.

One time I pulled am extremely ambitious perch out of the Helsinki bay with this.

I just cannot get over the fear that I'd be sticking my hand in front of a snapper and losing a couple fingers. I do want to catch a catfish because I have never ate one before and eating one I caught would be satisfying.

  • TefTef Registered User regular
Xaquin, they're just the best photos! You're a good dad.

Hey stale I'm up for some noodlin! Apparently there's quite a few people who die every year whole doing it? They get dragged under by monster catfish and drown

  • StaleStale Registered User regular
    Yeah, maybe in malaysia.

Not too many 80+ pound catfish in North America.

Do it here and you'll get anywhere from 3-4lbs up to 20 or 30 if you're lucky. They fight for sure, and it hurts like hell, but you won't be pulled under and die.

  • TefTef Registered User regular
    Oh. Well.

If you're ever up for extreme noodling in Kuala Lumpur, I'll book that shit.

So, it's cave in their skull, get hook out, have the mate skin and fillet them, and good eating at the end of the trip.

Fishing is cool. I go trout fishing once or twice a year in little streams. I caught a 9 inch rainbow trout last year and let it go. I don't know if that is a big deal or not. A told someone that story and they were mad at me for some reason.

I play games on ps3. My PSN is DouglasDanger.

Also, there was some guy... Jeremy... Wayne? Wade? on Conan last night and he does some "river monster" or something thing and it looks like a neat show.

Because River Monsters had an episode on Alligator Gar we gets tons of people who have completely the wrong idea about them because they didn't watch the episode. They just heard the whole tagline about human attacks. Something there have been none of but they didn't watch long enough to find that out.

love blues, but man, you gotta bleed em. as satisfying as skull smashin is, we just clip the line and get the hooks out when they're filleted.

but seacats.....those fuckers get to bake in the bottom of the boat. we used to slam em on the gunnel to stun em or die, but they have a skull like a rock.

I love the gar, we have a bunch in our Mississippi river habitat. It's pretty neat, it goes over your heard so you're looking up at everything. There are a bunch of blue catfish and bass in it too. Some of them are pretty big.

I'd be more worried about the Lionfish since people a few years ago decided they had to have them in their aquariums. Then they decided they didn't need them after all and dumped them off the coast where they are fucking shit up because they don't belong there >_<

Actually, yes. And where they are an invasive species along the Atlantic and further south you can take as many as you want because NOAA wants the buggers gone.
