Fluffy, I don't know what you're talking about (and to be honest, I don't think you do, either). I take it you haven't been following the comic.

I think the problem is your lack of reading comprehension.

This doesn't strike me as an especially pernicious observation. The controversy mostly seems to be that Tim Buckley doesn't really have the standing to make racial observations or humor.

I don't think it's that he lacks the standing. I think it's that he lacks even a modicum of the talent or comic timing necessary to make a racial joke work.

I don't think Buckley is a racist. (At least based on that single comic; he may be Klan leader for all I know, but whatever.) But I think he is humorless dipshit who made a half-assed attempt at edginess and failed miserably. The strip basically came off as:

"Black people eat fried chicken and watermelon hay guys am i doing it right"

Tim Buckley is not Chris Rock. He is not even Chris Kattan.
He should stick with miscarriages IMO

I think pretty much any CAD strip could be improved by swapping out the final panel with a miscarriage.

    Maddie: "I am not!"
    Riley: "You're a marsupial!"
Maddie: "I am a placental mammal!"

Great, now I need to buy photoshop and track down that comic just to swap the final panels.

You drop off the face of the earth or a bit and BAM new stereotypes show up. I had no clue on this one, pretty much every single person I want to drag into the aisle and beat into the special hell have generally been white. Usually idiot teenagers, or the 20 somethings bringing an infant to an 11:30pm showing of a movie on a Sunday and cannot be bothered to take their crying bundle of misery that wants nothing more than a bottle, a change, and a nap into the hall.

What is it about people who insist on talking during movies and somehow get confused when you tell them to STFU? Why has modern science not developed some way to combat the dreaded people who talk during movies? Are movie theater seats with installed with devices that measure the amount of noise you are outputting and then shock you for exceeding preset limits. Perhaps seats that would just seal up like a cocoon preventing your from communicating with anyone.

Perhaps said seats could also dispense beer.

If I was kidnapped, woke up in a lab, told they were going to replace my vocal cords with those of Tony Jay, and lock me in a sound booth until the day I die I would look those bastards right in the eye and say "Alright you sons of bitches lets do this. This one is for the children."

Someone like Buckley really can't make a comic about a white guy who builds a black robot servant. That just... that is just a minefield.

To be fair, the Robot is his Xbox 360

This is an inappropriate comment, exploits horrible racial stereotypes and references tech issues that are a couple years out of date:
    Spoiler:

That really doesn't help the analogy be less racist.

Now to actually be fair I don't think Buckley intended anything close to that inappropriate comment.

"When you run into an asshole in the morning, you ran into an asshole. When you run into assholes all day, you're the asshole."

Now add a blonde wig to the robot and we might have the beginnings of a real joke here.

Someone on Something Awful wrote a program that swapped every strip's last panel with the last panel of the Miscarriage comic. Its all hosted on some site, and its pretty hilarious.

I bet the writer of this webcomic is the type of person who regularly crosses the street to avoid black people that probably have twice his net worth.

Somehow I don't think he even knows anyone who's black. Not that that's necessarily an indictment of anything, but only someone who hasn't would think it might be okay to make this kind of shitty joke.

No but he is the type of person to send an underage girl a picture of his penis then ban everyone who even mentions it on his forums and the type of person to disband a WoW guild he hasn't even played in a few months and then ban everyone from the guild from his forums when they complain.

He is terrible and his comic is terrible. I'm confused as to why we even get to specific criticisms like this racist joke thing.

Besides, as far as I'm concerned, an artist/author might legitimately put a racist character, who says or does racist things, in their work, even if it's solely to flesh out the character. So, the meathead character in CAD is a bit racist. It's not necessarily a reflection of the author's own opinion. Even if the comic wasn't a total waste of my optic nerves' time and energy, I'm not sure this is worth discussing. Sure, the joke is racist. Does it mean the author is racist? No. Do I care? Fuck no, not when we're talking about the author of CAD.

Isn't the black-haired guy supposed to be the straight-guy character (compared to the charmed, oh-so-lovably wacky robot-building dumbass brown-haired character)?

I- cite? I already hold Buckley in pretty low esteem so I'm inclined to believe, but not without good reason.

And then I guess there's the fact that the only believable face he could find for the emotionless, silent, and obedient robot was a black face is another thing.

...Someone like Buckley really can't make a comic about a white guy who builds a black robot servant. That just... that is just a minefield.

The robot in the comic's storyline is anything but emotionless, silent, or obedient. Nor does it ever act as a servant. I'll give you the "believable face" comment since the first attempt at a face for the robot, while white, was a hideous mess.

That's what I was referring to when I said I don't think you've been following the comic. Read something before reading too much into it next time.

It was funnier when it was 'racist.' Going from, 'Derp' to 'Zzzzzz' on the scale of amusement. And as a black dude (*rolling my eyes*), I wish my fellow negroes would stfu sometimes (You're in a public or otherwise open space, there's no one else shouting, WHY ARE YOU SHOUTING?). So I don't find it offensive. I honestly wonder how many black people bitched about this being offensive vs how many overbearing white people.

Despite my contempt of 99% of all things CAD, that quote by black-haired-gamer-that-isn't-Buckley about punching angels in the anus actually got a chuckle out of me. I do hate missing previews.

Anywho, I think the joke was mostly riffing off of that particular steryotype and I think it's clear that he didn't mean to be offensive and I guess he hoped to score a "O HO I see what you did there" type of reaction. But I can also see why people would give him shit about it. I know that author intent is pretty much BS and I actually think it's good of him to acknowledge it and change it, even tho the result is somehow less funny. But par for the course I'd say.

I don't think a majority of the people on this forum hate the strip because it's offensive, but because it's just such a poor attempt at humor. I hear racist jokes all the time and the CAD one was just a weak and abortive attempt to replicate the humor that most people enjoy in private, the fact he went back and changed the joke twice just proved how unsure of himself he is in his humor and his inability to properly deliver a joke.

Although I can understand why the mainstream media would be offended at that strip, but all they're doing is just criticizing racist humor on the internet. Good luck with that.

If you can't beat them, arrange to have them beaten in your presence.

I love the fact that after he took the original down and put the new one in it's place, he put a link to the old one on his front page.

Seems to me like that would rather defeat the purpose of the whole thing.
