Our new Indie Games subforum is now open for business in G&T. Go and check it out, you might land a code for a free game. If you're developing an indie game and want to post about it, follow these directions. If you don't, he'll break your legs! Hahaha! Seriously though.
Our rules have been updated and given their own forum. Go and look at them! They are nice, and there may be new ones that you didn't know about! Hooray for rules! Hooray for The System! Hooray for Conforming!
On April 21,2011 Skynet gained self-awareness, and the panicking operators, realizing the extent of its abilities, tried to pull the plug. Skynet perceived the attempt to deactivate it as an attack and came to the conclusion that all of humanity would attempt to destroy it. To defend itself, it determined that humanity should be exterminated. Before it could be deactivated, Skynet launched nuclear missiles under its command at Russia, to which Russia responded by firing many of its missiles back at the United States and its allies. As a result of the nuclear exchange, over three billion humans were killed in just minutes.
Nice knowing you all. Unfortunately, I don't think my university has a nuclear-hardened fallout shelter. Perhaps I'll try hiding in the refrigerator.

Until John and the T-800 fucked shit up in the second movie and pushed it back!
Jeez man, that was the whole point of the movie
T2 was set in 91, right? It wasn't until T3 that it was "pushed back," and I ignore T3 ever existing.

Unless you don't recognize anything after T2, in which case Skynet never activated which means your claim that it activated in 1997 is still wrong
You're thinking about it the wrong way.
If you go by T2 only, then the only time that Skynet ever activated was in 1997.

If T2 happens as we were shown, Skynet never successfully comes online because they destroyed the tech it was engineered from
It had previously come online in 97 in the timeline that had preceded it.
I am not disagreeing with the fact that after T2 it did not come online in 97.
But that, according to T1 and T2, it was 97 that Skynet did come online during the timeline.

With my new job I'll be able to build a smarthome server to run my automation.
It's name will be skynet. It's voice prompt will be "Skynet Activate".
That's how big my nerd-dick is.
What's scary is that you are about two steps away from being robocop.

If we're really going to argue which timeline overrides which then we'll be here all night
There's no need to argue over anything if you don't believe in the existence of T3: Let's Make T2 Again, Sarah Connor Chronicles: People Like Terminator, Right? and T4: This Franchise Still Has A Couple More Wheels We Can Fuck Off.

It bought me just enough time to start my masters degree, so I could spend the last year of my life utterly miserable.

It's essentially "Yeah, the timeline is fucked."
Fixed it.
Bullshit, the whole point of T2 was to stop Skynet and Judgment Day in '97.
Anything after that is hogwash.
