I am so, so glad that I have a peer group who appreciates Weird Al. I really liked his stuff in 7th & 8th Grade and nobody I knew thought he was funny. I went and saw him on the Alapalooza tour in 93/94 pretty much by myself and had nobody to talk to about it after which was kind of sad.

I've been to...um, let's see...five? Yeah, five of his concerts.

He puts on a hell of a show. And he sounds great live.

Yeah, Weird Al's been doing his thing for something like 30 years now.

35 actually, as he got started in 76, when Dr. Demento started putting his music on the air.

When asked about Weird Al’s “Dare To Be Stupid” in an interview, Devo frontman Mark Mothersbaugh soberly said, “The synthesizer sound in that song is brilliant, and I hate him for that.”

My favorite part of the Gaga parody is the "Express yourself" around the 2 min mark of the song.

Also, while I was reading about the Gaga incident and other Al stuff, I never knew Pastime Paradise existed and was the basis for Gangsta Paradise.

It was amazing, I have to tell you. I didn't know exactly what to expect. Donny was the first call, because if you have to have a white and nerdy icon in your video, like who else do you go for? I didn't really know what he'd bring to the table, frankly. As soon as he showed up on the set, he blew everybody away. I didn't give him a whole lot of direction, he was asking "Like what do you want me to do?" And I said, "You're basically the Krayzie Bone in this video. And you're gonna be behind me, just kind of like dancing and moving. Just let the cameras roll and we'll do coverage of the entire song, we'll do one take, I dunno do something, and we'll take a look at it and see what's good and what's bad." So we turn the camera on and we got on the set and Donny just went nuts. And it was the most hilarious thing I've ever seen. We watched the tape, and the two of us were just cracking up, we were like two little kids.

I am happy there's a new Weird Al album.

I am sad it contains a bunch of songs I already have.

I'm another one that's been listening to him forever, back when i had cassette tapes of his first 4 albums. I'm also in the 'so out of touch I probably won't get the parodies' camp, but that's never stopped me from liking them before. I didn't know that This Song is Just Six Words Long and I Lost On Jeopardy, among others, were parodies until much much later.

There was an amazing skit in the Weird Al Show about the weather done Armageddon style(with the UHF cast!), but I can't find it, so here's this instead.

    Why are you Munkus Bieber

Long ago in a distant land, I, Munkus, the shapeshifting master of darkness unleashed an unspeakable evil. But a foolish Admin wielding a magic forum account stepped forward to oppose me. Before the final blow was struck, I tore a portal in time and flung him into the future, where my evil is music. Now the fool seeks to return to the past and undo the future that is Bieber.

I don't like the Gaga parody. It feels really weak. Not one of his better works. I also feel like I've heard that song before. The way his vocals are sounds exactly like a previous song but I can't place which one. I almost want to say Phony Calls but I don't think that's the right one.

That said, Alapalooza was one of the first 3 CDs I ever owned. It was great. I immediately went out bought his older albums too.

I also have on VHS, somewhere, an hour long mockumentary he did for...Disney channel? Maybe. It was a really weird documentary. There was something in it I'll never forget. It was a scene where he was signing autographs and a crazy guy came up to him talking about how he listened to all of Al's song backwards and he agrees, he agrees man. When the snakes rise up from the ground and the apocalypse is before us. I've never forgotten that scene because it was just so weird.

Well the Gaga song sounds a lot like Express yourself and vogue from Madonna, so did he do any parodies of those?

He did Like A Surgeon which was Like a Surgeon.

Being the insane person I am, I just went through entire studio album catalogue to find what song it is. I was right the first time. It is Phony Calls I was thinking of.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kjwjl8ARLqA

It's the way he sings the chorus in the gaga song. It sounds like a faster version of this to me. I could be crazy.

Also, in going through his library, I realize there's only one song I don't actively like. Genius in France. Unlike Albuquerque and Trapped in the Drive Throu I feel like GiF drags on and on. The other two long form songs are great but France? No.

Edit: Oh man, I never knew he made a video for Bob. That song had me rolling the first time because I fucking hate Bob Dylan.
