Lets not harsh on Spool guys. I am willing to believe that his cite of Bain's wiki page was a good faith argument. Its just that Wikipedia is notoriously unreliable when it comes to controversial issues and you have to be wary of people trying to pull a fast one on you.

Good rule of thumb is: If its pop culture, wiki is usually good. If its politics, watch out.

Its one of the reasons D&D politics threads are so good. We got people willing to check and post quality sources on the issues.

The sky was full of stars, every star an exploding ship. One of ours.

I see. Because the page looks pretty and doesn't confirm your opinions, and because there are a lot of sources backing up what the page says, that means you should ignore all those primary sources and just go with what you believed.

This is your argument, guys? Really? There's too much information from the SEC for the page to be trustworthy? Here's a thing, you silly geese: You asked for a source, I gave you 90 fucking sources. Dig through them yourself and refute that shit if you still disagree, but stop pretending you're being skeptical when you're just being contrary.

Besides, this is a solid catch-22 you're driving toward - if Bain is terrible, they're terribly supporting a lot of Democrats who seem perfectly cool with that.

Edit: cheers, kipling. I no-sarcasm appreciate the benefit of the doubt, and you're right... I got asked for a source, I gave a source, no ulterior motive involved. The source confirmed what NPR reported, and I really don't know what else people want from me.

    Fuck's sake.

Jesus you guys are being dicks (Kipling excluded). Put up your own sources if it's all such obvious bullshit and maybe we can all learn something. It's not like spool was citing reason.com or the Heritage Foundation.

Here, 5 seconds on Google and I found the article that is the likely source for the Obama ad being discussed (haven't read it yet but maybe I will on my lunch):

The page was clearly written by someone at Bain, there's simply too much information, too well formatted and sourced for it to NOT be. Bain capital simply isn't as interesting as that page would indicate. It doesn't mean that it is wrong, but it will clearly have a biased view.

Oh, and Bain likely gives most of its money to Democrats because it is Boston based and does a large fraction of its business in Democrat controlled areas. While their work isn't friendly to Democratic goals, they still need contacts and 'favors' from state governments.

It's the reason I warn students in my breakouts that if they cite Wikipedia, I will bust them on it (I teach Intro to American History).

A good way to to tell if something is suspect is to compare different languages of Wikipedia articles, easily enough.

Okay, I do have one thing to say - "post-punk David Broder" is in no way a term of praise.

So it was Doug yesterday, and today they have a rabbi shilling for Romney (a totally non-partisan one who happens to appear on Hannity shilling for Romney!), so he posts this:
I love your writing because you’re one of the few bipartisan centrists who realize that both sides do it, where “it” is pretty much any bad thing. You’re like the rabbinical David Broder. Have you always been so fair and balanced or is it something you learn over time as a rabbi?

The rabbi also misses the sarcasm.

On CNN's "The Situation Room" Tuesday, Trump maintained that Obama's birthplace is a matter of opinion, rather than fact.

I like how "Where was Obama born?" is given the same epistemological status as "Who's the best Spice Girl?"
