No. All of the 12 step programs tend to emphasis the no relationships for six months. It's not a hard rule, but it's strongly suggested and honestly for a good reason. If you're going to do that, your sponsor is high on the list of worst people to fuck. Your sponsor is the person you can call at 3 am because you desperately want to get drunk or high. But your sponsor is supposed to maintain some distance. Their goal is to help your ass through the 12 steps. When you sober up, it's a really vulnerable head space. Your sponsor should be a guide while you take some time to figure out who you are when you aren't drunk or high.
My girlfriend was never reallllly into sports until she was in college, and even then only nominally, as her school was not a major contender for any sports. Since I was a band geek, I developed a taste for watching football, and I've managed to get her slightly into that, and in exchange she's got me watching more college football.
She'll watch the games, and no longer has questions for me on every commercial break.
Oh, and ever since the Hurricanes did well in Hockey a few years ago, we've been pseudo-fans of theirs, as well.
Mostly, though, I like pro football, but I will watch any sport except baseball if there's a local team to root for on tv.
Baseball on television is terrible. I'll go to games, but I won't watch the game from home. It's...it's just terrible.
